they are a different design inside so dropping them may cause differnt damage, start you own thread if you feel so discriminated.

I dropped my 30 gig last PM about 3 feet onto a carpeted floor.  After saying "sh*t" about six times I found it works fine.

Unrelated to the topic, the new iPod fits loosely in the Waterfield Designs case for the old 5 gig, however, the tough nylon mesh has scratched the hell out of the steel back on my new one

I dropped mine. I could here the hard drive spinning up more, but it may have been the first time that I'd used it in complete silence, so I don't know. Maybe more of a placebo thing.

I didn't drop mine, but my 30Gig came apart on the sides, I mean it just started like, warping and coming apart, by the time I got it to an Apple store it was a good 3-4 mm seperated...  Apple replaced it, new one seems fit as a fiddle...

i dropped the heck out of mine when i was riding my bike couple weeks ago. it sucked big time. it fell from the original iPod case (flipped over whenit was clipped to my belt), it fell from around 23 mph to the concrete and slid for about a good 9 feet till it started rolling down a hill on some grass. besides some grass stains and heaps of scratches, it still works fine.

i got a friend who dropped his in the toilet after dropping off the cosby kids at the pool... after he got the guts to pick it up from the bowl, he blowdried it and it worked fine.  only thing that was broken was his pride.

well i was going to start a thread on how resistent ipods are to falls, but after reading here i can say im pretty confident of mines. just got mines the other day, the new 10 giger. strange tho, cause i got it last wed and used it and everything was cool and all (had not dropped it ), but by friday when i picked it up and started to browse, boom, the thing went coockoo, all i got was the apple logoflashing like every 5 seconds. i did all the troubleshoots from the apple site and nothing, i was freakin out mind you, so i took it to the university bookstore where i got it from and the guy just took it, opened a new box and gave me that one, simple as that, phew!, anyways, is all good now, and now im more confident that this thing in not more than a $269 (student discount, sweet) pretty casing...

I've never tried to drop mine on a mine.   Can someone give me some mines so I can drop mine onto a mine?

I smacked mine with a shed today.   It works better than ever 

this mornin' i was taking my ipod with me biking and as i went down a hill  and the ipod poped out the case and flopped around for about 5 feet no damage          

Hey guys i have problems with my 20GB ipod... I dropped it and it worked fine for about 2 days but then it just went bad... i tried pluggin the ipod to my computer and update it, and i did, but the problem is stil there, i can turn it on and everything works, the light, the click wheel, everything but when i tried to connect the ipod to the computer it just charges its battery and i tried the panel contro tool: Add Hardware but the computer wont find anything. please if you know something about fixing this tell me

I was walking past a baseball field with my 30GB attached to my belt.  Someone smacked a homerun over the fence and I ran to catch the ball so I could throw it back.

I somehow got tangled in the headphone cord, and the iPod sailed through the air about 10 feet and skidded across the sidewalk.  It was still playing when I recovered it, and works fine to this day.  This was about 10 months ago.

The iPod was in an iSkin, which I guess softened the impact a little, and preventef the 'pod from getting scratched.

A three foot drop onto concrete or asphalt is a 100G shock.  That's more than enough to kill your iPod.  Those of you that survived such a fall were unusually lucky.  Get an aftermarket padded case for your expensive toy!  'nuff said.
