ATI Mobility Radeon and CD tray issues!?
Ever since I updated OS X to 10.2.3, I've had these weird graphical glitches in my games. Namely Rogue Spear and Vendetta (beta space combat sim). It occurs on skyboxes. I get these white rectangular anamolies. I really hope this isn't a hardware problem. I have noticed, however, that this hasn't occurred with version 10.2.2 of OS X. So I'm guessing Apple broke one of the ATI drivers, or the OpenGL update screwed it up somehow. Anyone else having graphical anamolies with their 700 MHz iBook (16 MB VRAM) since updating to OS 10.2.3?
My second problem involves the CD tray. It gets stuck. I can hear the clicking of the ejection mechanism, but that's all it does. From what I hear this isn't an uncommon problem among iBook owners. Anyway, it's getting to the point where I either have to push in really hard, or time my pushing so that it overlaps with the clicking noises to get the CD tray to pop out. My iBook's warranty is no longer covered. Am I screwed? Is there a quick fix that doesn't involve cracking the case or throwing a few hundred towards Apple? If all else fails I might as well take a trip to the Apple Store at the King of Prussia mall.

Re: ATI Mobility Radeon and CD tray issues!?
All though i have none of your problems that you wrote on your latest thread i have one of my own that maybe you can clear up. I as well have an i book with a 8Mb graphic card and i want to play 3d graphic games, to do this you have to have at least 16Mb card but i want to know how to up-grade, would i have to take my book to a technition or can i do this my self, or did yours come installed. Thanks Merry X-mass.

Re: ATI Mobility Radeon and CD tray issues!?
As for the initial question. I don't play Rogue Spear so I can't vouch for that game but all of the rest of mine "seem" to be fine right now. Do you play any other games? Make sure that you have the latest ATI drivers installed to match the newest version of Jag. As for the CD tray, this has happened to me a few times, but not enough to call Apple about it yet.
As for the 2nd question, the video card in your iBook cannot be upgraded. It is a integrated part that cannot just be unplugged and swapped out. The version of the video card that he was speaking of came in his iBook. In fact the newer ones are shipping with 32MB ATI mobility cards.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, I hate the truth to that too. It was kinda strange that you asked that because I just read an artice at Macgamer.com that was talking about just that and I hate it everytime I have to have that fact pounded into my head. My friend has an Alienware PC laptop that has a 64MB ATI in it and I have to know that he bought his like 1 month or less after I bought my iBook and he'll be ahead of the curve much longer than my iBook will. But then again her spent near twice as much too.
At least I have that comfort.
