i guess i'm in a interracial relationship. the gf is asian and i'm white. her parents weren't too impressed but whatever. and i'd never really thought of us as an interracial couple until now. thanks a smurfing lot you useless smurfs!

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree, in some ways.  Chinese who have lived under the Chinese government at least, which I think everyone can agree is smurfed up... except for my chinese friends. 

I think the penis size thing continues because as long as it's seen as a good thing, you're not going to see a lot of people refuting it. When was the last time you ever heard an African American guy say, "Hey, I'm black, and I have a tiny wiener?"

Ummm no.There are more than a few medical "researches" done on this. You can go look it up yourself the average penis size is 6 inches or 5.877  if you want to be picky about it. Go "research" it if you don't believe me.

i've never understood the whole idea of being proud of your race.

It's not necessarily being proud - but its about not forgetting where you came from. Being proud of who you are is a way of protecting your family history.

If we forget our heritage, its easy for it to be ignored and forgotten. Remember, there are people actually trying to get things like the Holocaust erased from the history books. A lot of Japans involvement in WWII history is not taught in their schools. We cannot forget who we are because it's what shapes the future. This has the potential of becoming a political debate, but I think it is pretty simple.

Forgetting who you are and what brought you here potentially dooms you to duplicate the mistakes or misfortunes of you ancestors.

Where do you draw the line of remembering though? I don't know many white Americans who choose to remember the many, many years they brutally enslaved and opressed people simply because of their skin color...

Also, I wonder how most Americans define their "race?" It seems many identify their race as being white or black, when really there are many other ancestors in their tree who aren't white or black... Think of how many hispanics, or half hispanics look white, or how many people in the mediterranean look white (are they the same "white"?), or how many native Americans look hispanic and white... I think they need to come up with a new standard for determining race, and do away with skin colors... I also wonder why people choose to call black people African-Americans, when probably 99.99% of them have about as much to do with Africa as white people. They should just call them black-Americans, which would seem more accurate to me, and call white people white-Americans (which is how it is mostly)...

You hit the nail right there - we don't choose to remember some things - there are some things we need to be taught and forced to remember so that we don't repeat them. Would you rather ignore something you are not proud of, hoping it will go away, or learn from it, base the future from it and make sure that nobody else has to go through that again? Everything that can be learned from should be taught, and it should be a moral duty for us to carry that to the future. I don't want to be the next victim, nobody should be, and by remembering, by making sure that some things are not forgotten, we can ensure that history does not repeat itself.

Have you even listened to a war veteran speak? They hold knowledge of human suffering that we cannot even fathom. Same holds true for people who experienced some of the most tragic things in history. Most of whom are dead, those that do remain are old and don't have much longer. It is their experience, what they know to be true that they pass down through to their children that will effect their lives and the lives of those around them.

Suggesting that there is a time to let things go is stupid. Very stupid.


But the last part of your post holds some truth. Most who call themselves African American are no more African than the honkey writing this.  If poeple are gonna claim a heritage, they'd better know it.

As a country we are young, we have little history compared to the rest of the world. In time, I hope, what we do now will shape the culture of the future. But we won't live to see those changes - social change is something that takes hundreds of years, or more.
