XP or 2k. Don't even bother with 98 or ME. my 2 small copper plated zinc discs...

yup, 2000 pro. I've used XP pro and 2000 pro and 2000 is much more stable and just runs better.

i would say XP Pro or XP Home as it is the current OS.
I wouldnt recommend Mac OS 5.0 to a Mac user just because it was, in my opinion, the best OS. You have to go with what's current.

I wouldn't consider 2k to be anything like MacOS 5.0, anyway... 2 years old vs. what, 10 years old, is a big difference

Newer supports more current software and hardware. Newer is better. XP is a perfectly acceptable OS.

2000 Pro. I haven't seen or heard of anything that doesn't run on 2000. That includes the warcraft 3 demo.
...Except for the really old stuff that runs on XP but not 2000, because 2000 is a real OS and omits the DOS compatibility layer that XP has... sure, like I want to emulate a 20 year-old OS.

If your computer is current, say 1ghz and above, I think XP pro is better!
when I say better, I don't mean it is a faster/more stable/better memory management etc os as compare to w2k, I say better because due to a more extensive pnp and w98 line support, the chance of any piece of slightly older haredware/software having problem is almost zil! the basic core of w2k and xp pro is the same, so you are not gettting a more stable os one way or another!
I have use w2k before and am now using xp pro, I perfer pro for those reason!

#1 Windows 2000 Professional, has both multimedia and networking...all in one
I wouldn't recommend Win98, freezes half the time...most people, everyday home user seem to like it though
XP is stable but I wouldn't recommend it
ME - no way...worst MS O/S...

Brand spankin new P4 or Athlon XP = Windows XP
Pentium III or AMD Athlon = Windows 2000 Pro
Pentium II or AMD K6 = Windows 98SE
Pentium I or AMD K5 or below = Linux

WindowsXP Home or Profecional.
I have started using my Wintel box again, just to help my friends with theirs. I had Win98 on my computer for years and then upgraded to WinME; now that was a waste of money.
I purchased WinXP Home when it came out and it didn't work that well for me untill I upgraded it with the SP1. I still have problems with WinXP Home but the biggest one for me is that it refuses to shut down. Now I have to figure that one out, but I am in no hurry, I have my trusty Mac.

What is the difference between XP home ed. and XP Pro ed.?
Pro has domain controller and encryption API.
Oh and RDC Server.
I totally recommend XP home/pro.
Since I build computers at a computer store and have talked to many customers XP does everything you could want it to do.
