I am finally an iPod owner. I waited for so long (with bated breath) to get one of those suckers in my hand and now I can rejoice. I have waited for so long to write one of these posts saying that I finally bought some new in the Macintosh land. The last new thing I bought mac-related was my trusty (but very dated sadly) Clamshell iBook SE 366. Its served me very well and runs Jaguar solidly. Unfortunately I have be limited to what I could buy seeing how its only USB. But my B&W G3 at work has FireWire (and a very BAD case of the freezes by the way) so after some convincing of the wife we are the happy owner of Nemo, our iPod. Its only the 10gb variety, but we are tight on money and I don't have a HUGE MP3 collection. I'll probably by the dock after a couple months. I haven't felt the need for the remote after all the postings I have read about the remote and earbud cord becoming so long. 

Thoughts after a half day:

Postives: Damn, its tiny and very solid. The backlighting is great what I really love about it is the way it fades out. This feels so very well put together. Not that the first one wasn't, but it has really lost the cheap feel of the first one. The fact that I can drop in my pocket and forget about it, that's awesome.

Drawbacks: So far the only thing that is bothering me the most is the audible "pop" and inbetween the tracks. Hopefully software-wise they can clean this up. I'm sure there will be other gripes from me but I really can't come up with too many at this point.

The funny thing is that I've been a member of the Mac faithful since '89 and now I feel like I just joined it all over again. It's a beautiful feeling.
