Re: what do you do?
ahhhh, it probably dosent convince you guys any less to take my 7600 if i say ive invested in 256 MB memory for it, found a usb pci card for it, ethernet pci card (it already had one built in port tho), and it will work with the old pc compatability card my dad bought ages ago. no, i actually just bought the 7600 back in december as a christmas present to myself, but my question was more like "what do you guys do with your old computers?"

Re: what do you do?
Well, I use them as servers, to play classic games on, and just about any use I can think of for them.

Re: what do you do?
I mostly just fiddle around, see if they can do X Y or Z thing, and see how well I can tweak them to work.
A bunch of 7600-era macs would make a great basis for a StarCraft party. They can play UT or QuakeIII, but they'd have to be upgraded a lot.

Re: what do you do?
well, starting june, those computers are gonna be the only ones i use, and i think my 7600 is gonna be my main comp, but i was just wondering what you peps do with your old ones, cause i didnt know what to do with the others, but thanks for that info about the printing mo'ron
.
if you really want them, ill consider the 6500 and the preforma, only problem with that one is, it needs memory, i dont think it has enough to start up with, who ever gave it to us took it out
. and i think the problem with the 6500 is the hard drive, so not too hard to fix. im just kinda cheap
and no one gets the 7600 unless they give me a 15"pb

Re: what do you do?
Is the 6500 an AV one, or a boring one? I have a 6400 set up in my bedroom as a television and CD player.

Re: what do you do?
What do you mean a "boring one"?
There's no such thing as a boring Mac. If you find it boring, its not Mac OS. Its Windows NT.

Re: what do you do?
I have one of those televison a/v tuner equipped 6500s, i was thinking of putting it upstairs in the living room and hookingn it up to the 35 inch computer monitor (which is something i got for dirt cheap becasue it only does 640x480 or 800x600) and using it for the main television. the only thing is that i don't have the remote for it..

Re: what do you do?
Ah yes, thanks for mentioning that mo'ron. The remote control you use doesn't have to be for a TV/Video, either. On my LC630 I use a remote for a Sony LBT-D105 HiFi system, and it works great! The buttons that normally control the CD player allow me to control AppleCD Audio Player, the volume buttons work as expected, and the CD button lets me launch and quit Apple Video Player.
Its a really nice setup. Now i just need to find out how i can put the other buttons to use, if i can....

Servers, PCI hosts for Avid Merridien units, running old software... yea...
Those 9600's? DAMN!!! 6 PCI Slots... whoo. And since Merridien is all PCI based, who cares about the processor speed?
Ok yea.

Re: what do you do?
I have four Macs; a SE/30, a 7200/75, LC II and a 7600(se sig).
The 7600 is my everyday Mac and it's been updated quite alot as you can see in the sig. I use it for games, wordprocessing, some 3D-apps, Internet etc. Ie everything.
I got the 7200 and the LCII for free some while ago and so far they're just not doing anything but I've been thinking of setting up the 7200 as a personal server and maybee control it thru VNC - the only problem with these old Macs is that the fan makes one hell of a noice and I only have a one-room apartment. The LC isn't doing anything at all.
The SE/30 is my very first Mac. It was bought back in 1989 and it still works very fine for DarkCastle and other old games. I keep it mostly for sentimental reason and besides I don't like to throw away perfectly good things - I save everything(as long as I have the space).
Now, where in the name of... did I put that thing that I forgot what it was and why I was looking for it?
SE/30: 16Mhz/8MB/34MB/PussyCat
PM8600: G3@550Mhz/768MB/110GB/Radeon7000/Usb2&FW/Jaguar
PMG5: DC2.3Ghz/4GB/570GB/NVidia6600/Leopard ShufflePod, iPod Touch
