AP computer science

Let's see who here is smart enough to be in an AP computer science class. We took a test today,  these are actual questions on this test. Remember it is an AP(Advanced placement) class.

How often should you save?
a. when your done.
b. After the computer crashes.(it truly said this(it was based on Windows)).
c. Every couple of minutes.
d. Don't save just print.

Which of the following is not an integer?
a. 1
b. 2
c. 10
d. 2.5

I wonder how some people get a B in this class....

Re: AP computer science

Which CS is this?  I know there's 2 tests, and one is significantly easier than the other.

This was on an AP exam? Ridiculous.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Re: AP computer science

Jeez, my intro to programming class (small schools suck, wish we had AP comp sci..) was more advanced than that, on the first day, in a group where I was the only one who'd written anything other than html before...

Re: AP computer science

actually this was part of the exam... sad i know.

There were harder questions yes, but not much.

And it was AP Computer Science A.

Of course if you look at my computer science teacher you would understand. Dumbest guy I know. He doesn't even know the answer to one of these questions!

Re: AP computer science

The guy behind me insists that he can crash any OS if he's programming on it, so it isn't just the PCs that are gonna be vomiting.

...of course, I get the feeling that the "save" they want you to perform is on a word document, and not a C++ file...

That said, this test has been dumbed down a LOT since I've heard questions, even if it is the A test.

Re: AP computer science

My computer science class doesn't have anything like that. We simply have a sheet given to us with what a program has to do, then we are given 2.5 hours to program it. We get marked on whether or not it runs, quality of code, how well it met the required features, interface, etc.

(interface: It almost always ends up being a CL program, so "interface" basically means to not have "OK d00d, now +yp3 yr r3q\/3s+3d FILE NAME. OMG LOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLOL"

Re: AP computer science

... My AP CS exam that I took a few months ago involved writing lots of random code, quite a bit of it related to fish. I didn't take the actual class, though. =P

(Heh, I was the only freshman, and only person in the school, to take the test. ^_^ My school is sad.)

this will remind me to laugh at the incoming freshmen who pimp AP CS as a "qualification"

Re: AP computer science

On a related (not really, I just need to vent) note, some Cal Poly student created a program called iSim (not Apple related, doesn't run on Macs) for their senior project.  It's for designing and testing circuits, and I hate it passionately.

You have to create code for everything in the program, and much of this takes a long time and is not intuitive.

Over the summer, I'm planning on making a Cocoa-java program to create the circuit in a wysiwyg enviornment, with the option to translate the design into iSim code.  It should save us Mac people some time and effort, should I succeed...

Re: AP computer science

Hey, you at least have to know C++ to pass it. Unless you go to Superpaul's school. ^_^

Re: AP computer science

This is a little off the subject but isn't AP comp sci switching to Java next year?  So we might be looking at some major reforms in the tests given.

Patiently awaiting the G5 PowerBook.

Very nice, I'll take a look.  However, the iSim program is different than just Sim (don't know how different, but I'll look into it).  Not sure if this would meet my needs there.

If it didn't matter what program we used to create the chip design, I'd be all over this.

Re: AP computer science

Eh? I can read it clearly enough... When my done. He might be trying to say when my.done, or more specifically, if (my.done), so when my.done == 1, I should save my work.
It was a programming class, ne?

There's nothing wrong with Java any more than with C++.
