Why is there so little activity in this forum?

Given the number of people listed as belonging to the Team MacAddict group, I've been wondering since I joined this group why this forum sees so little activity.  Admittedly, a lot of those 6200+ people don't seem to be active, but there are still several hundred at least who are actively crunching away.

So, tell me what you think.  To make it more interesting, I've made it a poll smile

If nothing is broken, and all the possible optimizations are linked from the team homepage, what else can we discuss?

A: I think there are aliens - math says there has to be.
B: I disagree on religious grounds
C: I disagree - math proves it incredibly unlikely.
C: Besides, how do we know they'll be using a radios? This is probably be a waste of time.
A: You have a point - SETI as it is probably won't find ET. But it might.
C: Why do you think I crunch WUs? :-)
B: God created the Universe and we are his chosen people.
D: MAC sUXors for wArez!!! Bill gates is l33t!!!
B: You're all going to hell.
E: Well, you're an impassionate, close-minded bigot.
B: People like you have caused the downfall of western civilization!
A: Guys?
E: B is an idiot.
D: 1'm l33T! $%^& MAC. Apple sUXorz.

I'd just as soon we save our time and crunch WUs.

One of the reasons might be that the Extension site isn't being updated.  I wish I had any kind of clue how to do the stats thing.  That might motivate more people to get involved and do some crunching.  I know I found myself checking regularly to see where I stood with the rest of the team.  A little internal competition so to speak...  Those were back in the days when we were in 6th place...checking today I see we are in 11th sad  If we can resurrect some of the non-actives, we might be able to start gaining some ground.

Re: Why is there so little activity in this forum?

Only when things aren't running well do we see a flurry of activity.

*On an individual basis, there are posts when someone thinks his computer is crunching slower than it should, can't connect, etc.

*On a team basis, when the stats are wrong, haven't updated in a while, etc.

*On a project basis, when the servers at Berkeley are down, a new version of the software comes out, etc.

I lurk at a couple of other SETI boards and this seems to be the pattern at all of them for the last four years.

If OcUK is so great, why haven't they discovered any ETs?

Re: Why is there so little activity in this forum?

The more units u crunch does not necessarily mean u have more chance of finding alien life. The number one unit cruncher in OcUK is the biggest seti cruncher in the world The Ministry of Serendipity with over 2 million work units. He has yet to get a signal candidate

It's all pure luck - i've done just over 200 work units and am just as likely to have a signal candidate on my next unit as he is.
