Stellar Countdown WUs

Currently Stellar Countdown WUs (WUs from re-observation of the best candidates) are currently distributed. From the update text:

Beginning today, some lucky SETI@home users may expect to see some unusual work units being processed on their screen savers. Unlike most SETI@home data, which is collected during the normal operations of the Arecibo radio telescope, these special work units are composed of data collected during SETI@home's historic "Stellar Countdown."

In normal times, SETI@home collects data from its SETI receiver, which is permanently perched high above the Arecibo dish and points at whatever location in the sky the telescope happens to be directed at. In contrast, during a 24 hour "Stellar Countdown," observation window, between March 18 and 24, 2003, a SETI@home team led by Chief Scientist Dan Werthimer used the full resources of the giant Arecibo radio telescope to deliberately target the most promising candidate signals discovered by the program so far. The data generated by the Stellar Countdown represents the best opportunity so far for SETI@home to detect an extraterrestrial signal.

Check your displays and rejoyce if you got a WU from that batch, I got 3 so farjavascript:emoticon('big_smile')
