I need a great FTP for OS X. Fetch?
Before I pay for Fetch, I'm wondering if there is something better out there that I should be using?
I loved Fetch for the classic Mac OS, but am a little annoyed by Fetch for OS X. It's not bad - but is there something better?
I appreciate your thoughts!

Re: I need a great FTP for OS X. Fetch?
I do a lot of uploading to various folders in my webspace - and to others. As my screen name suggests, I do audio for a living & I send my finished work as mp3 files. I used to email them, but clients suck! They always lose things. So, instead, I just upload the files. That's why I'm looking for an easy to use FTP pogram.
I'm checking out Transmit as we speak, and it does appear to be better than Fetch.

Butt I beleive that you can use a finder window using the Apple+K. But I'm not sure how robust that is.
It sucks. Besides having the capability to bring the whole system to a grinding halt, including the dock and the clock, it is only for downloading. You can't upload with it. At least I can't.

I recommend Transmit. As well, if you pay the shareware fee, you can sync with folders.

You might also check out RBrowser Lite. It's fast, doubles as a local file viewer (very useful for working with invisible files, etc), and, unlike Transmit, it does column view and it's free. (The shareware version adds sftp and a few other things.) Rock solid as well.
RBrowser Lite: http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo. … amp;db=mac (4.5 stars out of 5 over 114 reviews, not bad) or http://www.rbrowser.com/RBrowserLite/DownLoad.html

Re: I need a great FTP for OS X. Fetch?
I have Fetch and Transmit installed, although I use Dreamweaver the most.
Problems:
Dreamweaver - Not too many features....very slow.
Transmit - Fast, though also not too many features (like permissions)
Fetch - Kinda slow...ugly interface.
So there you have it. It kind of depends what you'll be using. If you want speed (and a nice Cocoa interface), go with Transmit. It you want features, go with Fetch. But if you want convience, go with Dreamweaver.
My 2 cents.

ncftp is a command line FTP program, free, and, in my experience, far better than the built in terminal FTP.

You can set permissions in Transmit, btw. File>Get Info or ctrl+click>get info or cmd+i

Yeah, definetely go for Transmit. I use it since V.1.6. I tried also others, but I have to say Transmit rules everything.

I've started to move away from GoLive. It kills me when you have a couple of docs open in golive, switch to IE, then when you back to GoLive, it takes FOREVER for all the windows to come back on top. I'm even using a Dual 500mhz G4, it's pathetic.

Re: I need a great FTP for OS X. Fetch?
I've been using interarchy for a long time now... It was great on OS9, and it even worked ok with osX , however since OS10.2 the windows stopped working correctly (confirmed by Interarchy) of course I'm still using an older version (4.1) and the current version will work great with 10.2.
However, I do not see what more features they can add to the program that will be worth paying for.
All I need is upload and download files....

LiftP is free and is pretty good, you can check it out here. Works well for me. I also use GoLive to manage my site. I keep transmit around, but I like the little warning messages it puts up so I don't pay the shareware fee. Kinda odd, I know.

I suggest you get this one! This rocks!
Whatever you need to fix quick when I don't need to edit in Dreamweave which is waste my time.
Please research before you decide to shoot me.

I like fetch! I've heard good things about transit, but...

I use Fetch and personally I like it
That said, is there a way to do chmod in any of the ftp programs? I'd like to learn how to install Greymatter eventually.
