Re: What transmission do you drive?

I prefer stick.  I like the feeling of driving it: having control of more options makes me feel more like I'm driving than just sitting there.  Sticks always feel more powerful than equivelant autos.  I'm all about gas savings, and every little bit helps.

Also, the engine braking is not only nice, but can be very useful in an emergency.  My brakes went out recently, and I most likely would have ran into the car in front of me without the help of the engine.  That is a rare occurence, but it's nice to have that assurance.

Though I use stick, I'm actually quite interested in CVT technology.  It has the potential to lower the fuel requirements of cars even more, while still providing the direct connection and potential for control of a manual.  They could provide essentially infinite gears.  The car I've been designing in my head for a while now, my dream car, would involve a use of a CVT switchable between automatic RPM based control and a manual controlled 'throttle' for either RPM or the CVT ratio directly (the last two would be very strange to drive after driving a manual for so long).

By the way, I'm not a teen (though it wasn't too long ago that I was).  Just saw the topic and thought it was interesting.

Re: What transmission do you drive?

My car has a crappy auto 4-speed tranny that's woefully inefficient, but soon  I'll scrape together enough money to swap the tranny out to a 5-speed.

I drive a manual 5 speed.  I don't like driving my parents' automatics.

Unless you feel like blowing parts up all the time and running inconsistent times, you drive automatic.  Ideally automatic with a manual shifter.

Re: What transmission do you drive?

My sister has a manual, I have an automatic but I can drive a manual, my mom can drive neither, and my dad can drive both.
