Re: SERVER HAS BEEN ORDERED
Ok, kids...here's the IP addy:
69.57.137.161
Use port # 28070, if it asks.
(or just type in 69.57.137.161:28070
)
As of right now, JKC and I are the admins...but we don't know what the heck we're doing yet. Please be patient as we try to figure things out.
(In other words, just expect basic functionality for the first few weeks, until we get familiarized with the admin stuff).
NOTES FOR SERVER CONTRIBUTORS
As far as contributing to the server fund, it's not necessary to establish a PayPal account (although that would make things handy on my end). If you would prefer to send contributions via snail-mail (checks or money orders), then contact me. My email addy is in my profile (the same email addy can be used for PayPal contributions, too...just be sure to put "[MA]JK2 server" in the subject or notes).
With payments, please include your forum nickname and your real name, as well as clearly marking [MA]JK2 Server somewhere in the transaction. I do a bit of trading and selling on ebay, so that would be a big help to me for keeping track of server payments.
Thanks, and enjoy!

Re: SERVER HAS BEEN ORDERED
Ive handled Web Admin for the Omega server but I guess this server doesnt have that feature. You should be able to view the entire JKII folder on the server your going to via FTP or something. If its like UT you just need to change the server settings via the cfg files then restart the server remotely.
Unless it requires you to remote admin the server or something like that. Not sure with Q3a based games. I remember hearing ppl do it for some servers via a Terminal thing which displays the stuff happening on the server/etc. Now im not sure if its Terminal of OSX since I think this was something on PC side.
So if we need a PC we might have to get someone that has a PC or Virtual PC to do it. Brain, BJ, and OFSG are the ones in Omega that I know would probably have experience in this area. Im sure if we really needed it they would give us a hand.

Re: SERVER HAS BEEN ORDERED
Outstanding! I'm pretty sure the admin functions can be handled in-game via the console (Shift-~) for "g_disable ..." commands and the like for force powers and weapons, etc. I could be wrong, but this is the impression I get from talking with admins of other servers.
Anyways, off to check out the [MA]JK2 server! (We should come with a cool name for it, like "[MA] Academy" or "Jedi Amphitheater" only, you know, good ones instead of those two ...
)

Re: SERVER HAS BEEN ORDERED
Well, I checked it out, and it is indeed cool. Coupla things, though: you can't add any bots (error message is "You can only add bots as the server"), and voting is disabled.
Without voting I don't know how we're going to play any non-FFA game or change maps without an admin on. Unless the games get cycled, in which case we may have a situation where the server is serving up a game of Jedi Master and no one wants to play that, or something.
We may want to have a minimum of 2 players on, so that the server fills up one or both slots with a bot. Or we could just add the capability to add bots as we like.
Other than that, it's great.

I don't have my copy of JK2 handy (I may have to repurchase

Re: SERVER HAS BEEN ORDERED
Excellentness! Of course, I'm getting ready to leave town for an extended weekend but I'll try to get some time to scope it out.
We may want to have a minimum of 2 players on, so that the server fills up one or both slots with a bot. Or we could just add the capability to add bots as we like.
Another good reason to leave a few bots on at all times is filtering. When I get a list of servers, I usually filter out the empty ones. Okay, I also don't usually join the ones with only bots, but at least the chances of people seeing it will increase dramatically.
Thx again guys!

Re: SERVER HAS BEEN ORDERED
Please allow me to reiterate: ...
Oh, I know, I didn't mean to complain that it wasn't set up right yet, just to bring up issues that we could all talk about to see how we wanted to work them once the admins had the time. I should have made that clear. Like the guy who just makes the high school team, I'm just happy to be there.
Sounds like, even more importantly, we need to get you a working copy of the game, and get Chewie's game to not crash when she logs on. Only then will the Force be in balance... .

Re: SERVER HAS BEEN ORDERED
I went ahead and invited {MAC} (MacFleet) to use our server...I figure that'll help generate a bit of traffic. I posted in their "Fleet Communications" forum, which is a members-only forum, but if you're also a member of {MAC}, then you should be able to see it. If not, here it is:
[MA] JK2 Server is up & running (sorta)
Read all about it.
(that's just a link to this thread)
{MAC} members are welcome to come play. Currently, it's a bare minimum (just the basics) server...I should be doing some tweaking sometime this weekend.
Comments & suggestions are welcomed.

Re: SERVER HAS BEEN ORDERED
LOL!! You guys aint gonna believe this but the MOH server was running on a 2Ghz Celeron
. They just now got it upgraded to a Dual Xeon
. If they were paying as much as I think I heard for that, man they were getting ripped. Would never pay for a Celeron server
.

Re: SERVER HAS BEEN ORDERED
Hooray for the server! Now we can really kick butt.
Anyway, I finally have internet access. I am using my Dad's old laptop, so there's no way I'm playing JK2 out here on 56k. So... I might be able to play in the next two weeks at my friend's house, and he has broadband, which would be sweet.

w00t
First order of business after Chewie and Kev learn how to use the server: put on 1337 stuff.
I have several really awesome non-standard duel maps, along with about 40 new character models from the SW universe (except for Indiana Jones and the Covenant Elite)...

Re: SERVER HAS BEEN ORDERED
I'm putting together a stuffit archive of the thumbnail pics of all those models and maps, if anyone is concerned about their overall quality.
I might be done in an hour

Re: SERVER HAS BEEN ORDERED
All done!
JK2 map/model picture archive
Putting together the Red team, Blue team, and default skins, 128 unique appearances are possible with these models.
Yes, that's in addition to the game's standard models.
Some of the pictures don't display the correct team colors, but the actual in-game skins are color-coded.
As far as setting them up on a server, there's pretty much no configuration required; no special "serverpackage" lines to add to your ini files so people connecting can actually see them like in UT.
Just throw them in the "base" folder and you're good to go.
I know this is coming on a bit fast, but I've been using them on my LAN for a few months now and they are a ton of fun.
The ONE reason I can think of to NOT put them on is the *ahem* large download (137 MB uncompressed).
If someone with Stuffit Deluxe could turn that into a .bz2 file or something, we could probably squeeze it down quite a bit.
I'm not even sure that the server would require the client to have the models installed to be able to connect and play.

Re: SERVER HAS BEEN ORDERED
After some testing last night, I discovered a few things:
- If the server has the skin but you don't, it won't send it to you via autodownloading.
- If the server has the skin but you don't and somebody else is using it, that somebody will appear to be either Kyle or the skin you are using.
- If the server has the skin and so do you and somebody else is using it, that somebody will appear to be that skin.
- If the server doesn't have the skin and neither do you, but somebody else is using it, that somebody will appear to be either Kyle or the skin you are using.
- If the server doesn't have the skin but you do and somebody else is using it, that somebody will appear to be that skin.
In short, the server doesn't even need the skins installed for a client to be able to use them.
The only way other people will see your "true self"
is if they have the same skins installed.
That said, downloading the skins is entirely optional, but it still adds a lot to the game.
If anybody desires to have them, I can make an archive of the ones I hand-picked off of jediknightii.net and post it for download.
The skins alone are 103 MB (uncompressed).
I haven't forgotten about the duel maps, though
Those would obviously need to be downloaded when in use, but I think autodownloading is off by default, so until Kev/Chewie figure out how to turn it on, we might want to hold off on them.
I added two more, bringing it to 43 MB (uncompressed) for 7 maps.

Re: SERVER HAS BEEN ORDERED
oops.
sorry about being kind of idle on this the last few days. we got the server tuesday night, i was having problems with JKII going crashy crashy and stuff, so i say to myself that ill do it wensday.
wensday morning i go out to the DMV and get my driving permit (again
), come home from that stupid place of ridicilously long lines later in the day, test out my 1337 driving skillz and end up having an incident with my car being romantically attracted to a plam tree, so the car runs up and gives the tree a hug and wraps itself around the poor tree, and i guess the car wanted to get rid of us by throwing its airbags at us because i guess my mom and i were screaming too loud and we ruined its moment or something. since then mom and i have been doing random things like, looking at new cars and stuff. so yeah, ive been kind of out if it the last few days. sorry for my absence in this critical point in our history
and to make it worse, im going to my cabin in like, 15 mins, so i still wont be able to work on getting JKII working up there, because although we have the net, its like, hte sux, because its 56k and were like, 30 miles from the nearest city, givign me uber lag.
