I'm not sure if you're being totally sarcastic or just about the Halo part.
MS makes you buy a seperate remote ($30) to play DVD's. It doesn't add any kind of hardware or software, they simply crippled it by making it so that it isn't allowed without it.
It's a cheap trick, but I think Nintendo's, "You can access special features in the game by buying a gameboy and cable." Can't there simply be a good natured game company???!!!??

I've always wondered why people waste time posting to boards and topics about a game system they either don't like or don't own.
Well, I don't own an X-Box, but I would like to have one to play some of the excellent games available. (Halo, DX: Invisible War, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic) Is there anything wrong with that?

Hah, that's funny. Nintendo was horrible to it's developers. The US Government had to intervene with them.

Anything you are asking would require a modded Xbox. You can play different types of media files on an xbox, but you have to mod it to do it. Xbox will play only DVD's. Similarly, if you want to copy files onto your Xbox HD, you would need to be running linux on it, which requires a modded Xbox.
Not 100% true. The Xbox will play cds, mp3, DVDs with the remote add on & of course Xbox games. The xbox will even ask if you want to convert your cds to mp3 and save them on the hard drive. So you play 'em while you play.
I've move my aging first DVD player to the bedroom. The xbox is now my primary DVD player. No faults what so ever.
