Give me some ideas. What's a useful little app that would embetter your Macintosh experience?

Check out the RumorMill for this sort of discussion, there are currently a few discussions about upgrading exsisting iApps, and what folks would like to see in new ones. If those topics don't tweak your fancy, then try and post this again there, I'll bet you get a lot of replies...

iSync that'll allow me to Sync a desktop and a laptop (or just specified folders) without having to upload all my crap to an iDisk from the desktop and then re-download it to my laptop in the morning, and then in reverse again at night. Espeically if I want to do this on a regular basis.

It's awfully foolish to have to route everything through a 100MB iDisk and take at least twice as long as a local Airport connection... not even considering how much time a gigabit ethernet connection would save.

p.s. I don't see why this should be in the RumorMill. he did not start a Rumour
and he is not asking for any. he just wants to know what app people think
would make the Mac better. that's something that's anything Apple.

I think a backup program that works like Apples backup but doesnt requite .mac to burn to a cd

An application like SoundApp, for OS X. iTunes is not the same thing.

I'd love to see an Apple-branded browser based on Chimera. This is already rumored to be happening.

Next, I'd love to see Apple produce a simple WYSISYG HTML authoring program similar to the old Claris HomePage and Adobe PageMill. Dreamweaver and GoLive are great, but they are too expensive and feature-laden for the average person who just wants to put up a simple website without going through a steep learning curve. I believe Apple had such a program called HTML Edit that came out with the OSX beta, but it was dropped when OSX was officially launched.

I realize that there are free HTML editors available, but most of these are clunky and ugly to look at.

Finally, I'd also like to see a more robust DVD player for the Mac platform, similar to TheaterTek DVD. This doesn't have to be produced by Apple, since Macs already come with DVD Player. However, DVD Player is pretty lame--you can't even take screenshots without resorting to shareware like VideoLanClient. There are some people who would like to set up a home theater PC (HTPC) without having to go over to the dark side (ie., Windoze).

Oh, and iBrowse is in development, and it's based off of the Gecko layout engine. One of my buddies at work has seen a test seed. As of a few months ago, it was alpha. Maybe we'll see a beta by this MacWorld. Hopefully OmniWeb 5 sneaky peaks will start appearing by then, as well.

Primarily, I'd like to see an Apple version of Office. I'm sick of Microsoft's half-assed carbon port and the little, annoying glitches it has.

VideoLan Client is freeware. Apple's DVD player also doesn't support anything more than stereo channels. VideoLan Client does, if you have a Sonica and the soon-to-be-released Revolution 7.1 with a 4.1 or better speaker set. Apple seriously needs to beef up the audio capabilities of their hardware and software.

Honestly, Halime sux for both. However, it's definately the most promising, with the best interface by far.

But it sure as hell would "embetter" my computing experience.

I want a DVD Player that can take screenshots.
QuickTime Pro with better editing tools.
iMovie 3.
iPhoto 2.
iBrowse (or whatever, i've been hooked on Chimera for months)
An app that lets you stream video without QTSS or knowing the IP address of the person you're streaming to!
A game based around Steve Jobs/Apple vs Microsoft. (see GTA for style).
A decent macro-recording (cross-application) program that records actions, not keystrokes (i.e. Edit>Transform>Scale to a certain recorded size rather than doing Scale by a default measurement).

And window-wipers for my screen.

I said the interface was great! It just doesn't have all the features I need.

Here's a good idea... an app that would generate Applescript via a GUI. Something along the lines of Stuffit Express, only for more programs.

I wish that Apple (or somebody) would make it be possible to preview a font just by double-clicking on the font name - especially uninstalled fonts. While I like my Mac, I miss this feature from Windows.
