Corpses of Saddam's sons shown on TV
CNN is broadcasting the images now (ew!), but I was wondering what you folks thought of this. Anyone here think it's distasteful for a government to be publicizing images like that?
Me, I guess Republicans won't be able to complain about nasty images on TV anymore ...

I think George W. should drive around Washington D.C. with them on the hood of his F-150, and then string them up like deer on the White House lawn.

I'm pretty sure that there's a FCC code that disallows the showing of dead bodies on television.

Would that be the Geneva convention that Bushco claimed Iraq was violating by showing captured GIs, at the same time as Bushco were showing captured Iraqis?

This is as sad as when Mousollini was strung up for all to see.
Trylu a sad day. The Iraqis have to endure seeing their loving leaders displayed this way.

Just out of curiosity, what was the point of that? What purpose could it have possibly served?

Now, to some degree. When conquoring army's marched through Persia, they would display the slain leaders as well as the Persian's would do the same and still do. They expect it.

You mean two thousand years ago? How humane was "Western" culture back then? And are Iraqis the same people as the Persians, who were from Iran (and came originally from the Medes, long, long since disappeared from history)?
Anyway, if the Geneva Convention doesn't apply to Arabs, then terrorism is just hunky dory, right? 9/11 just par for the course?

Well, if they aren't military personnel, then they're civilians so it's still illegal!

That doesn't explain why it was displayed on American television networks.

Re: Corpses of Saddam's sons shown on TV
The point of doing this was to prove to people in Iraq that they are, in fact, dead.
It was all over the news yesterday about how the administration was debating if they should show the bodies on TV or not, on the one hand it'd be pretty foul, could be seen as gloating, and they would be violating some of their own principlies, but one the other, it's the easiest way to silence the large number of people who say that the US was lying and that the two were not really dead.

Do you have a link?
I am not on CNN
I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: 'O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.' And God granted it.

If you use the weapons of your enemy, you slowly become your own enemy.

Well, how do you propose that it's made clear that they are, in fact, dead?
