Damn that was cold!!! Polar Bear Swims.
I just got back from one, and DAMN. Every year it seems to get colder. I only swam out 30-35 metres but by the time I got back my balls had practicly frozen off
Anyone that goes on one of these swims that does not live in Hawaii is a Bloody Fool.

Re: Damn that was cold!!! Polar Bear Swims.
I've never done it, but I really really want to at some point. It always has seemed to me like it would be a lot of fun. But then again, maybe I'm just insane. It's definitely a possibility

Wait. Are you saying that you just swam through an ice-cold lake?
What the hell made you do that?
I dispise the cold, I wish I lived in California with the coast within walking distance.

You should change that to: I despise the cold. I wish I lived in Southern California with the coast within walking distance.

Even on the hottest day of the year, Lake Superior's average temperature is only 40 F. When am I not taking a Polar Bear Swim?!

Faugh, if you want to live within walking distance of the beach in Southern California, you'd better be ready to cough up 500k$ + to pay for a house.
And San Diego isn't really that warm, as compared to Hawaii or something... Usually 50-70 throughout the year.
I looooooove polar bear swim. Go up into the mountains and freeze to death.

Sorta like an accent in music. You pronounce it louder than the rest of the word. Give the word a bit more umph. Or my shift key could have been brushed by one of my frozen fingers. Would you like me to change it sir?

I live right by Puget Sound in Seattle. It's not freezing but it sure is cold. I've often thought about taking a swim in it every morning to wake up, but I probably won't. It would be much better than a cup of coffee, though.

I think that tonight when I'm all nice and cozy under my blankets, I will be very glad that I live in nice moderate central/northern (depending on whom you ask) California...

you do realize that duluth has a polar bear club, dont you?
yes, people actually swim in the lake on purpose during the winter.... i've done it once before..... the water is actually warmer than the air, so actually swimming isnt that bad, but when you come out and a gust of air hits you and you are covered in a thin layer of ice... well thats not too fun.... (total # of swims in lake durning winter: 2.... total number of on purpose swims: 1..... the other time i was walking on the rocks and hit an icy spot... slid into the water fully clothed, without a towel, no car, 3 blocks from home.... that was not fun.......)

Oh yes. But I prefer not to go unless I have a sauna to run into as soon as I get out. Only way to go, saunas are.

I live in White Rock and there is a small Polar Bear Swim at the White Rock beach every year. Just a small event orgonized by some volunteer orginization or another. What part of Vancouver do you live in? Greater Vancouver covers a lot of area.
