How can I turn a photo into a drawing?

I remember a how-to a while back on how to turn a photograph into a drawing or sketch, but don't remember what issue it was in.

Ideally, I'd like to final product to look less like a pencil sketch and more like a water color painting.

Photoshop perhaps?

Thanks....

Adobe Streamline will do the trick.

Photoshop, and play with the filters. Elements may have a limited ammount of filters in it, but I could not say.

Photoshop will get the job done.

BTW, wtf is this doing in the MA reader forum? confused  hmm

Use the Find Edges and your favorite brush stroke filters in Photoshop to get that sketched look.  Just play around with it until you get the look you want.

Both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements have a filter called watercolor.  Look under filters/artistic.

How fancy do you want to get with it?
If you need something quick you could try experimenting with the filters. If you have more time, try painting on a layer above the photo layer.
If you're painting(and with a tablet) i would use a brush(not airbrush) with opacity lowered and wet edges on and experiment with that.
I was just looking at an article with an illustrator that was using photoshop to get a watercolor effect to her work- but have not read it yet.(in a mag.- not on the net)
If you're VERY interested I could always scan it and e-mail.(it's one page)

oops - I forgot to mention this would be using Photoshop.
Painter might be best but  has got waaay too much distracting options for quick work.
