Resolution changes

Help?
Have a problem of system changing resolution to one which is not supported by my monitor.
Can not find the problem. Have tried everything I can think of.
Any suggestions?

Zapped PRAM, trashed display prefs, etc....

Thanks

Mike

Re: Resolution changes

I would have expected that to work.  At this point I can only suggest running Norton Disk Doctor, TechTool Pro or Disk Warrior.

Re: Resolution changes

Which computer model?
Which Monitor are you using?
Which OS are you using?
When does the problem begin?  (startup, opening program, etc.)
Have you added any Vid cards?
How long have you had this problem with this computer/Can you think of anything that changed just prior(new program, DL, etc)?

B&W G3 upgraded to G4 (yes, had problem before upgrade)
Sony 17 200SX- have used it since 1996
9.2
Startup only
No
Over a 2 years.
Nothing has changed, except updates to 9.

The trashing of the display preferences takes care of the problem for 10 startups or so, than I have to zap PRAM x4 to get the regular display options back.
I wonder if it is a virus or worm as it occurs after a clean install, or reformat.
It has never appeared with the ext disabled, but I can't live without some exts for very long.
A conflict isn't out of the question, I just haven't been able to trace the conflict
I have tried Norton. But what can it fix outside of a disk problem, or a directory tree?

Thanks again,

Mike

Re: Resolution changes

It does sound like it could be an extention problem if it's not happening when they're off.  Best thing to try is going through them like I described in this thread, http://www.macaddict.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=507 , so you can either solve it or eliminate the possibility.  Try it and let us know either way.
