Re: Screen capture with mac? how
command shift 4 for a way to capture a part of the screen.
In OS X you can change the format from pdf to something else in preview.

And you can also press command-shift-4 and then immediately press the space bar. The cursor will change to a camera, and you can take a picture of a single window or menu.

Re: Screen capture with mac? how
Add the Control key to any of these combos (Cmd-shift-3 or Cmd-shift-4) to send the capture to the clipboard instead of a PDF file on the desktop. Very handy-dandy for quickly taking shots to paste into documents (Word, TextEdit, etc.).

Hey, this thread is about Mac OS X. Use Grab, nothing else such as Command+Shift+3 which belong for Classic.
To find Grab, go to Mac HDD > Applications > Utilities > Grab
After open Grab, for shortcut to capture the screen, press Command + Z

Don't waste your time with Grab. Just use the key combos, or buy Snapz Pro from www.ambrosiasw.com

Well, I tried at the first time, and it doesn't work! I am on PowerBook with 10.2.5. I test the same key combos on eMac (with 10.1.5) at my workplace. Now, it's work!
I think I will try it again on my powerbook... Otherwise... it's good idea to have Grab for small screenshot in certain area than rather use whole thing.
Please research before you decide to shoot me.

Command+Shift+4 will let you select a small area to snap.

Re: Screen capture with mac? how
grab only works for cocoa apps, and then not even some.
anything that came with ilife or shipped with Jag on the CD should support grab.
wtf are you bothering with that anyways.
Cmd + shift + 4 - selection, even on menus
Cmd + shift + 3 - full screenshot.

Re: Screen capture with mac? how
ok thnx
cmd+smurf+3/4 is what I intend to use. It may have been started in OS 9 but it seems apparently it works in OS X too. Seems like it is the most convinient thing to use.

Re: Screen capture with mac? how
If I remember correctly older versions of OS X did not have the Command Shift 3 combo to take a screenshot and you had to use grab but I think that it was 10.1 or Jaguar added the ability back.

What version of OS X are you using? It works fine on both of my computers with 10.2.6.

Re: Screen capture with mac? how
Well, Command-Shift-3 should give you a whole screen capture, and Command-Shift-4 should give you a crosshair with which to select the area you want to capture. If it isn't working, you might have some kind of Universal Access thing on which is messing up keyboard input, or you've installed something which overrides/disables the system keystroke.

I never install software. I brought someone which the laptop come with 10.2.6 with no CD
I guess I'll wait and buy full version of 10.3. I'll be patient without use short-cuts.

Re: Screen capture with mac? how
I want to switch my format back to PDF capture. It is stuck on PNG, and I can't seem to find out where to change it. I've searched everywhere, hi and low
. Does anyone know how to change the screen capture format to PDF files?
Thanks
