Re: What Was or is Your Favorite Macintosh Computer?
I have to say my favorite Mac was the very first Macintosh. It saved my butt during Naval Reserve weekend drills when I was left to fend for myself in the office, and it taught me that you don't have to be a brainiac code writting geek to use a computor. Now I'm the proud owner of an Imac G-5 and it just keeps getting better!
Give me Macintosh, or give me death!

Re: What Was or is Your Favorite Macintosh Computer?
My first 8600 at work was special. My dual 2ghz G5 is the love of my life though.
About the 8600:
I'd been running a website at work for a few years from a cheezy Compaq in the mid 90's. I was usually eiither ignored or abused by the staff. You could out for coffee waiting for Photoshop to Zoom in on an image on that piece of crap. Our new IT guy wanted to meet me. He checks out the website, and goes ga-ga to the managers: "This guy is saving you boatloads of money, and his work is really top notch!"
The IT guy comes back, very friendlly, and asks "Is there anything I can do to make your job easier?" I showed him the Photoshop Zoom on the Compaq, and replied: "Yes, please get me a Mac", and the 8600 was born. My productivity went through the roof. Back in the days before CSS and dynamic sites, BBEdit's Seach and Replace was invaluable for making mass changes to a site.
The 8600 was a bit of Trojan Horse, too. No longer ignored or despised, I was now lionized by the staff, all of whom now wanted a cool computer like mine. I did my best and, at least as far as my dep't. was concerned, we went all Mac within 6 months. Those were the glory days, and we've come full circle. Web workers get no respect now and are usuallly ignored or despised. Ha ha ha!

The original 128K mac. It was the one that turned on a new evolution of home computing. Even the superbowl commercial has never been outdone in my opinon.

Re: What Was or is Your Favorite Macintosh Computer?
My favorite Mac is still my first which is not an Apple. it's a PowerComputing PowerTower Pro ! What a kick-ass machine that was and still is. I still have it running Panther with 704MB RAM and 160GB of storage with a 900MHz G3 card.
As far as actual Apple made Macs, my favorite would be my AL Powerbook 1.5 that is my portable workhorse.

Re: What Was or is Your Favorite Macintosh Computer?
Whatever it is, I haven't had one yet. I do have to say though, I have a soft spot in my heart for how quick and snappy OS 9 was with opening windows and drop down menus compared to OS X. Maybe it's like that on a new Powermac, but I still haven't even seen a G5 tower in person let alone used one to find out.

Re: What Was or is Your Favorite Macintosh Computer?
I'm voting for the early Dual G4's.
I finally sold my Dual 450, and I'm utterly amazed that thing is still incredibly responsive and usable. I've never had a PowerMac last that long.
I finally wound up selling it because I needed the portability of a laptop... not because the machine was a dog.

Re: What Was or is Your Favorite Macintosh Computer?
I've worked (/played) with 4 macs in my time. I have no idea what the first one was, but the screen was b+w and it was an all in one like the 128k. Year must've been around 1990, though the computer may have been older. I loved that thing so much! It kick-started my love for computers (macs especially).
Then there's my old PowerPC 7500 which I've upgraded to a 120MHz processor and has more ram than any other desktop in the house at 728MB. I love it simply because it has become my project to upgrade and toy with it as much as possible. I'm hoping to get a similar processor to the one described by PowerMacMan and upgrade the 1GB HD and the CD-ROM drive too.
The family computer is an iMac G4. My favorite design out of every mac I've ever seen. Just a great looking computer. All of my friends think it's absolutely cool.
And then there's my PowerBook. Brand new with 1GB RAM. Just an amazing computer in terms of hardware. And it's my only laptop. It's the man.
I clearly don't have a fav, but all these computers were great for different reasons.

My favorite desktop is my current Mac--a grphite "Last of the G3 700" iMacs with 768 MB of RAM.
My favorite laptop was my last laptop--a TiBook G4 500 with 512 MB of RAM. Wish I never sold that thing, but now I have a 900 MHz G3 iBook (overclocked with iCooked).

Re: What Was or is Your Favorite Macintosh Computer?
In a chronological order of acquizition. these are just my favorites, there have been more:
IIfx: I had this one in a IIx case that I had hacked the front open so I could have a built in cd rom. It was ugly, but it worked great!
Umax c500/180: Much faster than the fx, and a lot better looking! LOUD built in speaker.
Quadra 950: An absolute dream. Stable as a rock. And the case... ohh... the case! just push two tabs and you're in! IMHO THE pinnacle of ease of repair was set here. This one will never leave my possesion. heck, I might just have it buried with me. Whenever I need an example of elegance through simplicity I just give her a once over. I bought this one just to have it.
iMac DV+ sage: The bad; The OD crapped out twice. A PITA to work on. the screen size got old in a hurry. No real upgrade path. The good; beeaauuttiiffuull. 5 years of service before retirement, and she is just starting to feel sluggish.
B+W G3 300: Case second only to Q950. Within 12 hours I had her running at 400mhz for $0.00, and five minutes of my time! I wanted one of these when I bought the iMac, but they were NLA.
With my average I'll get a G5 in 2009-2010! woo-hoo!

Re: What Was or is Your Favorite Macintosh Computer?
Sigh... where to begin?
After the first Mac I owned (a Mac Classic), I would say the first Mac I fell in love with was my PowerBook 160. My company bought it for me to help write reports on the road to save time. It had 4MB of RAM, an 80MB HD, and a built-in Supra 19.2KB modem. God that machine was slick! I told my boss at the time that if I had to choose between my wife and the PowerBook, I would really have a hard time choosing.
The next computer I really loved was the G3 desktop. That thing was built like a frickin' tank! The company I work for had spare parts for these things available, so I was able to create a Frankenmac out of one. By the time I was done, I had a 333 Mhz ZIF daughterboard overclocked to 400 Mhz, with 512 MB RAM, 20GB HD, CD-RW drive, firewire and USB cards, and a Rage Pro 16MB card. Once I was able to get a hold of a B&W G3, I transferred all of the 'goodies' from the beige tank into the tower.
Now, my joy is my Aluminum 15" 1Ghz. It's getting a little long in the tooth, but with 1GB of RAM and a recent upgrade to a Superdrive from a combo drive, it still has a lot of mileage left in her. Plus, like almost every one of my Macs, I didn't have to spend a dime.

Re: What Was or is Your Favorite Macintosh Computer?
I think my favorite Mac of all time was my Blue and White G3. The colors and overall design (like the way the side panel opened) really made me fall for it. I hated the puck mouse, though.
I was also very pleased with the Quadra 840AV as well as my PowerComputing PowerTower Pro225 (with internal Jaz Drive)!
My G4 PowerBook still draws a lot of attention from pc users when I use it out and about...in my mind I'm thinking, "yeah, go ahead and drool."

Re: What Was or is Your Favorite Macintosh Computer?
I own you all, my father in law STILL uses his two, never serviced, 512k Macs, one at home and one at his office. Hi only writes legal documents (he is a bloodsucking lawyer) printed on a Image Writer II, and his perfectly clean spelling and grammar (at 61 it should be) cares less about auto correcting software. All using system 4 with MacWrite and floppys like hell (backups everywhere, though he still files every document on printed paper, not disks.
He is so used to them, that I helped him track down a couple more in perfect condition to keep them on the side in case one needs service (still never happened), also some external floppy drives for replacement (these models don't have SCSI, 400K floppy only). I tried to give him my old but perfecly working SE/30 but this model can't run his old 68000 software (it has to be 68030).
We once tried to have him switched to a new Mac, we gave him a first generation eMac for Xmas and it drove him crazy. It ended up with me for a few months until I found a person who truly needed it. At least it helped my fiancee switch. This guy was not made for e-mail, CD-Rs, USB, MP3 or even a color screen, believe me. I'm surprised he even tried a computer back when 512k Macs were new and give up his typewriter. But he is a fascinating old man, smart and full of knowledge. He only plays chess on his 512k Macs (and ocassionaly beats it!).
My favorite Macs ever?
Owned: The PowerMac G4 Gigabit that lasted me almost 5 years non-stop without a glitch. Fully expandible. Also my SE/30, so much power into such a little machine. And last, my Beige G3/333 tower, man talk about smoking performance and expandibility for the time (I donated it to a cousin who is still using it).
Never owned: B&W G3, sexy and beauty combined with power and flexibility. PM 9600/MP, first time I ever drooled so bad for a machine (that's why a loved the Beige G3 tower so much, it looked so much like the 9600 only shorter). 20th Anniversary Macintosh, techno-porn if you ask me.
That's it.
P.D. Special place for a trusty PM 6500/225, it was a great Marathon machine, if you know what I mean. And a special place for a non-owned G4 Cube, always wanted one, if only to look pretty cool on my desk.

I thought the most elegantly constructed Mac was the Cube. My favourite from use is my dual 800 G4 Quicksilver, but soon I will be using a G5. And looking back, one sees the 8600.

My favorite mac would be my blueberry iMac, though I love my G4 tower. It is missing a few things in terms of speed and its a bit noisy, but I still enjoy seeing my reflection in its drive bay doors.

Re: What Was or is Your Favorite Macintosh Computer?
Hmmm...I've only owned three macs in my life. Used a friends old Mac Classic back in the day and used Apple IIe in school. But I've owned a 600mHz G3 Graphite iMac, then traded it in for a 700mHz eMac CD-RW only, then used that until I gave it to my mom and bought an 1.33 12" iBook with a 60 gig HD BTO. My favourite one that I owned is gonna be the iBook, I love being able to surf sitting on the couch. But my favourite all time Mac is the G4 Cube. The Mac mini comes close but the G4 Cube is much more sleaker. Plus more upgradable. Hopefully with the switch to Intel we might see the Cube design unfreeze from storage.
