Re: Bikes

King, The tires are 1" Specialized Flak Jacket, great for all the glass bits.

Those are the size tires I was guessing you had, didn't want to say it and then be wrong though. I have an image to maintain wink.

Re: Bikes

The fork won't fit any wider, rims won't hold narrower. Kinda sucks in slimy snow, (narrower would cut through better, treads would mash over), but I love it anyway smile

Re: Bikes

Yeah, I generally ride my BMX for commuting in the snow, and it has 1.9 inch tires, so I'm just sliding all around on top of the snow. Kind of fun, but also very tiring.

I"ll second on the sexy-looking bike, King. Very sweet looking, low-key yet so powerful in its singlespeeded kind of way.

Re: Bikes

king's bike is a nice ride too. Only problem is that it's a little hard to get into the air simply due to the fact that it's a single speed which means it has longer chainstays than a normal bike would. But that's just something to get used to. Soon enough, he'll be bunny-hopping over curbs no problem wink.

Re: Bikes

my bike, cleaned and upgraded

stripped it, cleaned it and upgraded with XT shifters, front and back derailleurs, bottom bracket and cassette; LX Hollowtec crankset, Avid SPD7 brake levers, Eggbeater pedals and new tires.

Next month: new fork.

Possible upgrade to consider: rear disc brake.

That's very spiffy Roberto. Where did you get all the new stuff put on? Or did you tackle that task yourself?

Re: Bikes

heh, none of you know me anymore, but I'm crawling out of the woodwork:

Here's my old bike:

http://www.fireflyweb.com/misc/trek.jpg

and here's the new Seven I just had made last summer:

http://www.fireflyweb.com/misc/seven.jpg

I bought a house so I kind of ran out of money on the Seven. I've since upgraded the rear der. to be XT, and the seat is a flite octavius. I'd love to get a set of race face cranks, but I don't know if that will work with a shimano drivetrain. (anyone?)  if not, at least upgrade becuase I reaaally can't stand that LX blue  eek

Of course I rarely ride anymore. I started making an effort to go twice a week at the end of the summer and hopefully this'll continue. I subscribe to Bike and Bicycling, both of which I have a "meh" attitude towards, but I like looking at the pretty pictures of scenery and gear, it keeps me fired up. Never understood Dirt Rag's humor (yes I really tried to like that magazine!) and I never really like MBA or those.

That Seven is *beautiful*. The whole thing looks nice even if some of the parts aren't the best. And yes, Race Face cranks will work with your Shimano drive train. Which Race Face cranks were you thinking about?

Thank  you  big_smile    Pricepoint has a set of Prodigy XCs for $65 or so, I'm thinking of picking those up.  I am happy with all the parts (XT) and the seat. The headset is king, easton bar. Those nashbar ends are there becaue I like the shape and feel of them.  wink

The wheels I had custom built by Dave's wheels (Speed Dream), with king hubs and bontrager ceramic rims.

If you're wanting better quality cranks, I would say that it's not worth it to get those prodigy cranks. They're no better quality than LX. However, if you just want to cranks for aesthetics, then go for the Prodigy cranks, they look nice. Another thing, are your LX cranks splined? Also, are the Prodigy cranks splined?

Re: Bikes

Mine are not splined, and the RF ones on sale are not either (probably why..)  I might want to spend $65 on aesthetics, who knows. smile

Did you post a picture of your bike? I can't remember if I saw it.

No, I haven't posted pictures of any of my bikes yet. I'm planning on doing it at some point during this long weekend. Should have them up sometime tomorrow.

Re: Bikes

Well, ive been waiting for this forum thread to pop up for ages.

I have a 20" Norco Scrambler (02 model) which is just as good as most of the trials series, and with some upgrades has become a nice DH, FS bike for me to use, bush and urban. although i am planning to get the 03 A Line later on this year - still saving my $$$ for it - Au$5000 worth.

My most memorable and prob worst accident in the urban scene was a show off attempt that got what i wanted.

I have been pushing the boundaries on how far over i can get an endo, and each time i go a bit bigger, with most of them being over the 90 degree mark (90 degrees to the horizontal flat). One day we were doing some urban assualt and these chicks stopped to watch us. The guys they were with (a$$masters) started calling us various names and stuff, so i decided to do my endo tricks. After being further abused i took it too a legde about four feet up. I went right to the very edge and pulled my first endo. It was huge. Most of the tyre and all the frame passing between my legs, about 96 degrees i think. Second one went off as well, so far so good. Then i went bigger than ever, end pulled out at 108 degrees when i over balanced and face planted on the concrete below. I got a bruised arm, a smashed knee and two phone numbers wink

Other accidents include high speed bails downhill resulting in large amount of skin being removed  blush  and prob the most memorable after crash moment. Walking into a supermarket, arms covered in blood, caked on mud, and a bit of skin flapping around, walking to the counter and giving the check out chick a bottle of detoll and 100 plastic strips. She freaked out, swore a bit and then called management when i started bleeding on the counter. It was halirious - since then i now have full boday armour.

Well, i have a bit of a reputation as a psycho, and taking a hard tail over a 10 ft drop gave me that classification.

I hope to start making some videos too, of all our urban assualts and stuff.

Re: Bikes

lol, that's awesome. Those are some pretty thorough accidents you had there, I must say. So this 20" Norco you have, is that the frame size or the wheel size? I'm assuming it's frame size, because I don't think Norco makes a full suspension bike with 20" wheels and I couldn't picture you doing downhill on a 20" wheel bike.

Re: Bikes

Dunno, 'bout a link, I saw them in the store. Black cranks with a gold-tone chainring. It was the Octolink, Hollowtec version of the LX.

Maybe I'll take a pic the next time I hit the store.
