So, I Downloaded MacScan -
After reading the Internet Privacy article in the latest MacAddict, I thought it would be cool to see who's spying on me...
And, like, WTF?!!!
Not only is MacScan a fu**ing beta, it is a beta that has expired.
You MacAddict people might want to try getting on the ball!!!
Narasu (guy? girl?) Rebbapragada wrote the article. Perhaps this person should be replaced.

Often there is a bit of time between writing and the publishing date. Don't be too hard on her. She's a good writer. Ask the makers of MacScan why they have an expired beta for download!

Re: So, I Downloaded MacScan -
yeah MacScan is a bit unstable at the moment, the beta's expire automatically and I guess they ussually think that by then they will have been done with the next version, but this happens frequently.

Are there a good way to locate this spyware stuff by using the command-line?
One would think so.
Sorry about ripping Ms. Narasu. Undoubtedly, she wrote the article in early August. The MacScan beta 7 release was 7-29-03. The whole anticipation - then getting let down - thing was a total bummer.

All this venom for one little piece of software? you need to take a prozac about the size of Montana. And back off the MA staff. She's been around MA far longer than you and has contributed far more.
maybe we should replace you with an expired beta.

Effectively, Ms. Rebbapragada is writing about security software that doesn't quite actually exist. For that reason, one may argue that there is a competency problem on her behalf.

Re: So, I Downloaded MacScan -
Beta software exists, and is often very functional. If it weren't, then it wouldn't be beta, but more like alpha, pre alpha, or some other likeness. I point at Safari to support that statement.
Anyway, try setting your date back a month or two. Sadly, that usually is an effective way to get around timed expirations (although not always).

No, but I'd argue for a missing brain problem on yours.

Tell you what. Since you're a big fan of smurf or heavily berating people for insignificant errors (if indeed she's even at fault), you tell us where you work. We'll call your boss and let him know that next time you have a minor mistake, he should just fire you on the spot, if not severely reprimand for your incompetence. We'll also make sure he knows you support this position.
Assuming, of course, that you aren't as error-free and perfect as you imply in your post. Or that even if you do make the occasional teeny mistake that it can't be ascribed to your lack of competency, since clearly you aren't wanting in that area.

Should the need ever arise, I'm certain a big steaming pile of doggie poo can be found in the immediate vicinity of his employer.

To err is human to forgive is not our policy? Only in some places and some of the time.
To err is human to really screw up requires a computer!
The credit for these little sayings goes to others so don't blame me if you don't like what you read here. Maybe I should be canned too from the human race huh?

The fact remains that MacScan does not exist and is therefore vaporware. This is something that members of the MacAddict staff should have caught if they know how to do their jobs.
On the subject of MacScan, is this the only security application for the Mac? I just can't believe that it is. Why was the nonexistant MacScan the only one mentioned?
It seems to me that there are problems at MacAddict that need to be addressed.

It seems to me that you have a broomstick up your ass that needs to come out. Put up or shut up, and if you have any sense of decency whatsoever, you'll just leave these forums and never return. Spare us your idiotic rampages.
Oh, by the way, your second sentence has a grammar error. It should read, "This is something that members of the MacAddict staff should have caught if they knew how to do their jobs."
I think that's grounds for you to be banned from the forums, don't you? I mean, come on, glaring errors like that one are obvious displays of extreme incompetence on your part, and we don't take kindly to incompetence here on these forums. Definitely, you need to be banned so you never make ridiculously stupid errors that undermine the intelligence average of the entire human race again.

Does not exist? Vaporware? What's all this, then?
Once again, you've demonstrated your superior stupidity. I've downloaded it and run it. So for an app that doesn't exist, it seems to occupy space on my hard drive, and functions as well. Alas, we cannot say the same about your brain. Although we can say that there is something taking up space between your ears where a brain might normally reside.
It seems to me that there are problems at MacAddict that need to be addressed.

And what is this?
The current beta - b7 has expired the next version will be available within a few days. please sign up for the mailing list to be notified upon availability.
Og, same goes for the link you just posted, only that one is beta 6.
I do think an apology is in order on behalf of the MacAddict staff. The October 2003 Online Scams article was poorly researched. I find it amazing that the MacScan vaporware was the only security application even mentioned.

Actually, I think you owe everyone an apology for being here, assmunch. Betas expiring is something that just happens.

Re: So, I Downloaded MacScan -
Three problems with you your current situation matt.
#1. Beta's expire and if they do new beta's come out, you just have to wait (the horror!).
#2. Don't ever badmouth a member of a particular community if they have been there longer than you, or if they happen to work there, cause the rest of the community is gonna' rally behind them. Especially nice a nice person and good writer like Narasu Rebbapragada
#3. Don't be such an ass (related to #2).

You can take your desired apology, fold it until it's all sharp corners and shove it up your ol' chocolate whizzway.
How about you go work for MA. I'm sure Rik would love to have you on staff. You could show them all how to run a magazine and what life is like without mistakes.
You've been visiting this message board for a very short time, and already you've managed to alienate many and demonstrate an impressive skill in pissing people off.
If you think MA is so bad, cancel your subscription and buy a PC. PCs never have vaporware or betas. Didn't anyone ever tell you that?
