Re: DVD burning????????
Use Quick Time Pro to convert it to a .mov file or iMovie
One or the other should work. you might experiment with the format by burning it an a VCD (video CD) using Toast

Re: DVD burning????????
Get QuickTime Pro, export to DV Stream. Open iDVD, drag the movie onto a project and fire away. Actually, if the .avi is already playable by QuickTime, just go straight to dragging it into iDVD and it should work fine. If it is NOT playable on your mac, get DivX Doctor II off of Version Tracker and see if you can convert it into a usable .mov. If that doesn't work either, then I think you are out of luck!
Hope that helps,
