NO SLEEVE FOR YOU!
On page 8 of February 2003's MacAddict there is a letter from Rik saying that, due to the sagging economy, the MacAddict disc will not come with a sleeve this month. Mine did. What about you?

5. Sleeves are for Backstreet Boys; Iron Maiden vests are where it's at.
6. Whether or not mine came with a sleeve this month really depends on my religious beliefs, and is none of your business.
I'll let you figure out what that second one means.

Re: NO SLEEVE FOR YOU!
I really hope that the disc stays in one piece, I'm getting mine sent over seas to crispy cold Sweden
Now, where in the name of... did I put that thing that I forgot what it was and why I was looking for it?

Re: NO SLEEVE FOR YOU!
Mine came with a sleeve, but I didn't get one with the issue a few months ago (December?) when this topic last came up. I wonder if that time was a test to see how much we'd complain or if the discs would get damaged...
In the long run, I guess it doesn't matter. The sleeve is nice to have, but I'd rather the money went to keeping Macaddict "a better magazine." I will miss looking at my nice stack of cd's in sleeves though.[/i]

Re: NO SLEEVE FOR YOU!
I didn't get a sleeve a few months ago, the disk was scratched pretty bad. I emailed them and they sent me a new one with the sleeve, took 9 weeks but I did get it.
The mag is about quality, no sleeve seems kinda low-res.
At the least, use a generic sleeve with a window to protect the CD.

I got a sleeve too and I guess I glanced over that little tidbit. Maybe people who have been subscribing for a while get the last of the bunch? I've had my subscription since the beginning, 6/7 years.

It would be nice if one of the mods who actually works for MA spoke up, but I guess they're all too busy testing all of their hundreds of products to be concerned with us mortals.

Finally!
I got my December and January issues yesterday (they got delivered together, for some reason) and both of them had sleeves on the Discs.
Great "The Truth" article, btw!

Re: NO SLEEVE FOR YOU!
I just got my Feb-issue today and Yup the CD came in a sleeve. I've just renewed my subscription 'cause with or without sleeves MA is THE Mac Mag for me.

Re: NO SLEEVE FOR YOU!
The price includes the sleeve and it should...
what good is the CD if it comes all damaged!
Maybee the big boss gave himself a raise... and that's where the money goes...
It can't be that expensive for the sleeve (per mag) but El Cheapo will tell you that the total price is too much!

Mine had a sleeve, I wondered about the note also. Perhaps it means future issues will lack sleeves?

I had the same experience a few months ago. We publish a monthly CD to bankers, it's only 12,000 a month, and certainly not as big as the MacAddict distribution. But important to our customers.
At one time we had preprinted sleeves and mailers. We cut back to a basic white sleeve w/window. Final cost is $.06 a sleeve as oppose to $0.28.
We tried to do just the CD in a generic cardboard envelope, but had a 25 percent complaint rate. Reshipping 2,893 CD's in one month was more expensive than the $.06 a CD. Not to mention the stress on my staff and the bad taste it left in the customer's mouth. Some refuse to come back because of it.
There is a right way and a wrong way to cut corners, we learned a hard lesson. My advice, don't send your customers damaged CD's.

Whoa! 2-day gap between getting the Jan issue and getting the February issue!
And yes, it came in a sleeve.
One slight thing that peeves me - MA used Giants: Citizen Kabuto on 2 Disc sleeves. Arrh.

Re: NO SLEEVE FOR YOU!
Maybe the big boss gave himself a raise... and that's where the money goes...
Aha! My secret is out! Yes, I freely admit it -- I'm taking the sleeve money and procuring a bevy of svelte and downy minionettes to fan my fevered brow as I rack up more and more millions at the baccarat tables in Monaco. Bwah-hah-hah-hah-ha!
Seriously, though, everybody in the publishing world is operating on a shoestring these days -- except, maybe, Maxim, but, uh, I don't wanna do a glossy, sweaty photo essay on "The Wenches of Macromedia" any time soon...
Sure, we'd like to keep the sleeve -- but we would've like to have kept Digital Droo even more, and we couldn't afford that, either. I'd much rather have Jen, Chris, Leslie, Niko, Kris, Narasu, and Cathy than a Disc sleeve any day of the week.
Oh, and the estimate of $.06 per sleeve is just about right. We print around a quarter million mags per month, so it adds up pretty fast. And, BTW, our Disc damage rate (so far, at least) is miniscule -- but PLEASE let us know if your Disc is damaged so we can replace it.

Re: NO SLEEVE FOR YOU!
Alright - it's time to ask WHO CARES!? I mean, unless the Disc is damaged (which, going by the sleeveless Macworld's track record, is going to be a rarity), it isn't that big of a deal.
I, for example, have a stack of about 20 paper CD sleeves. God knows where they came from, but they somehow ended up strewn around my computer space. If the Disc doesn't have a sleeve, I can use those. So can you, if you have any. Or get a spindle or something. Or, and this is an alternative only for the either rich or insane - get one of those 200-disc CD/DVD changers. You can fit every Disc MacAddict has ever made, plus over 100 other CDs or DVDs.
[neo]Whoa.[/neo]
But I like the sleeve anyway. Bit of an oddity that it says in the mag that it doesn't have a sleeve, yet it does have a sleeve. If it was printed in the mag that there wouldn't be one, then why was it even designed?

Re: NO SLEEVE FOR YOU!
just for the record, i buy macaddict instead of macworld .. and one of the main reasons is that the macaddict cd dosnt get all scratched to hell... i wouldnt mind if you raised my subscription price by 6 cents per month so that i could get my sleeve.....

OK, but you still didn't address the issue of the disc actually coming with a sleeve when it wasn't supposed to.

If I pay $15 a year extra for my subscription, can I get sleeves? They're really that important to me.
