autologin + >console
Isthere anyway for me to set autologin under 10.2.3 to >console so that I can just run x? I'm going to be working more in x and would love to have it log into console by itself so that I can learn linux (well bsd for now) and then move to gentoo when I can afford a new machine

You can try....
In System Preferences -> Login pane, there is an option for "automatically log in as user:" Type in >console and see what happens.
Of course, don't come to me if it totally screws your system. Just keep your Jag CD handy in case you have to do a clean install. You can also have your computer start up in verbose mode all the time, to give it the total "I'm really UNIX" effect.

nope, that doesn't work. That was the first thing I did. It only lets you auto login as root or other users you set up, no "other users", inclusing console. I know there is a way to do it on the command line, I just don't know where to do it, and am a little uncomfortable playing with the boot files by myself.
