Linksys WAP11 WEP & iBook w/ Airport Card

Linksys WAP11 AP works fine with iBook if encryption is turned OFF.  IF I turn encryption on, the airport asks for a password.  But the WAP11 does NOT have a password the iBook recognizes.

Does anyone know how to get an Airport card to work with the WAP11 in encrypted mode?

Linksys suggest I must enter the 4 WAP key settings into the Airport system.  Where and how is this done?

Many thanks,

Jock

Try putting a dollar sign $ infront of the the encryption key when you enter the key into your Airport settings... I think I remember seeing something about that... good luck

Sounds like a plan -- but as an Apple newbie -- well I owned a Mac in 1983 or so -- I haven't a clue as to how to find the internals to set in the iBook.  I can only get at the top level menu which keeps asking me for that infernal password.

Thanks,

Jock

Applications -> Internet Connect  Then select your Airport network if it isn't already and then go "open" and then just type in the name/password but try the password with a $ in front so say your pass word is 12345 try $12345   Hope this helps.

Re: Linksys WAP11 WEP & iBook w/ Airport Card

If you want to make it easy on your self and you are using the 128 bit encryption use a 26 alphanumberic hex password for the encryption. This was the way I finally got the Mac under OSX 10.2.3 to work with this encryption. You put in in the location that the fellow mentioned before. For example 12345678901234567890123456 as the password and you should be okay.

Could not get it to work myself with smaller random length passwords. There is a program out there that will take a pass phrase and change it for you. It does work.

There are some very good articles on this on the apple site as well if you dig into it deep enough.

It does work as I have the same device at work and use my mac there all the time.
