HP Laser Printer, Appletalk, and OS X 10.2.8

I have an HP LaserJet 6MP connected to a G4 DP using OS X 10.2.8 (which I just upgraded to).  When I try to print, the Print Center queues it but tells me I have to turn on Appletalk.  When I go to Network Preferences, it tells me that Appletalk is already turned on.

Shades of Microsoft!

Toggling Appletalk off and on doesn't help.

Any ideas?

Do you have AppleTalk on the correct port?

How is the laserjet connected?  USB?

have you tried toggling "show shared printers" on and off in the print center, it causes a problem with gimp-print, maybe it is causing a problem for you

Assuming your printer's connected by ethernet, this is how I overcame a similar problem (plus a problem with updating Classic resources which made it impossible to run Classic applications).

I downloaded the 10.2.8 standalone installer and reinstalled it.  Afterwards, I didn't get any AppleTalk warnings anymore (plus the Classic resources updated properly).

Is there a reason to print over AppleTalk? If all else fails, create a new printer using TCP/IP and connect if you know the IP address of the 6MP.
