Best Laser Printer

Hey all,

I'm looking for a high-quality laser printer that is USB. It has to be USB cause I'm gonna hook it up to my AirPort Base Station so everyone on the network can use it. Thus, it also has to be heavy duty. It also needs to support PortScript. That said, any suggestions?  big_smile

Thanks so much in advance,

I second that motion. ( I am posting here cause I want to see what people have to recommend, and I get notification in my email.) Sorry to the original poster, but I had to piggy-back.    shrug  Or ethernet, cause I would totally love to hook it up to my router. thanks.   blush

For ethernet, we use an Apple Laserwriter IIg... it kicks ass. If you can ever pick up one of these secondhand, do so. They rock for an old fogie machine.

Then your choices are somewhat limited.  The Airport base station only supports certain printers, mostly inkjets.  You can view a list of printers by going to http://www.apple.com/airport/printcompatibility.html

So if you really need it to work on your base station then it will have to be one of those listed on that page.

Re: Best Laser Printer

The HP1300 is the one I use.   Fully compatible with Rendezvous (plug into AirPort and go).   Get some extra memory though as the 16mb is a bit measly (I upgraded to 80mb for less than

MacBook 2Ghz, 4GB RAM, OS X 10.6.1
12" G4 1Ghz PowerBook, 768mb RAM, OS X 10.4.11

Re: Best Laser Printer

I was hoping for something that was a little easier to come by. I looked all over, and I will be printing grapic design layouts, invoices and the like on it...any other ideas? If I do find the mentioned Apple Laserwriter, I'd still get one...or an apple laserwriter 630... whaa

Re: Best Laser Printer

My local bi-box store (Future Shop) is full of 1300s...  or try www.macwarehouse.com

I also want a 1300, but I do't think I'll spend more for the network option.  I'll just use one of my macs as the print server; it's on all the time anyway!

Re: Best Laser Printer

I went with a HP Laserjet 1300 with a Netgear Mini Print Server. It's a little slow to print sometime and has problems with really large print jobs (50+ slides in PowerPoint printing as handouts), but otherwise works very well.
