Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
Anybody actually bought and used one? Before the one button, two button twelve button mouse debate starts, I am perfectly happy with my Apple Pro Mouse on my G4.
But we just got a new powerbook g4 and the trackpad makes my hand hurt after awhile. I was pricing mice and found the new Apple white pro mouse for $50 and the Apple Bluetooth for $70
I'm hoping for some feedback from those who may have used it.

PS: I did try the Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse here locally. Blech! Felt cheap, two (pun intentional) tall, your clicking finger wants to rest on the scroll wheel which moves with even the slightest twitch......

Re: Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
I'd be interested in knowing this too. I've got an old Apple Pro (USB) mouse, but it's starting to get a bit flaky. I was considering Apple's Bluetooth mouse, but damn if it isn't expensive (at least here in Canada). A hundreds bucks for a mouse! Yeesh.
Is it worth it?

well actually I care or I would not ask the question. PCguy your answer dos not help at all
The logitech is a nice mouse but it requires a transceiver making the whole thing actually MORE bulky than a bluetooth mouse since the G4 has bluetooth built in !
and again twenty eight buttons with tachometer and surround sound do nothing for me. I am wanting a nice wireless counterpart to my apple pro mouse.

you can leave the base at home for charging and bring along just the mouse. it'll work with the BT on your PB. and as for the 8 buttons. it's nice and useful but that doesn't suit you....personally i like all of the buttons on the MX700/900. they're not redundant, but useful and perfectly positioned and well designed.
as for the Apple BT mouse. i'm not sure how the tracking quality is, but i highly doubt it matches the MX700/900 (please prove me wrong here). but it's small enough to be easily tucked somewhere while travelling, the off switch is great, definitely something other wireless mouses should do as well, and the design is neat. i think if the tracking quality is decent, it's worth the 100CDN$. (that is if you can live with a one button mouse, otherwise, get the MX900)

Re: Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
I'm sick of buttons sitting under my thumb and right fingers, sick of fat mice which stick 10 cm off the desk, and sick of buttons in general that click with the slightest change in pressure.
So I bought another Pro Mouse (wired) for my PowerBook. I've never used the wireless ones, but they are supposedly exactly the same as their wired brethren.

Re: Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
yes apparently PCGUY would rather aggravate than illuminate. Anyway to continue:
I went to the Apple store and a local PC dealer this morning. Bought the Apple bluetooth mouse and the Logitech Mx900 at the PC dealer and am now doing a side by side comparison with the idea of taking one back. (it's worth the 10% restocking fee to get something I'll be happy with)
They are both nice mice. The Logitech is the H2 Hummer to the Apple mouse's Audi TT
The logitech is big, tall, heavy and very solid feeling. Lots of buttons, very flexible, very black/chrome/techy. The dock, bluetooth adapter is big too and has activity and charging LED's. It does have a very good scroll wheel.
The apple is very similar to the white apple mouse they are now shipping except that whole thing is chalky white instead of a clear outer shell on a white case. It comes with lithium eveready batteries. The mouse actually feels very well made (a bit heavier than the pro mouse) and they put the tension adjustment in this mouse unlike the current mouse that comes with the G5 and Imac. I think if you like the pro mouse you will feel right at home.
My apple pro mouse and the bluetooth mouse stacked on top of each other are still smalller than the logitech.
Interestingly my brother saw the logitech and went right out and bought one. He really liked it.
So to each his own. I am going to try both this week and see what comes of it.

Re: Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
I find the Mac Bluetooth mouse to be a little erratic (that is a strong word, it's not that bad but I don't know how else to describe it).

Re: Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
Well after using both for a few days, I have found one thing that they both do that is very annoying.
If the system goes to sleep, when you wake it up the mouse will be non responsive. If you turn the apple mouse on and off a couple of times it will eventually respond. With the logitech the only solution is to take the batteries out and put them back.
I'm hoping that panther may have a fix for that otherwise it defeats the purpose of having a wireless mouse.
As far as other uses, I'd give the edge to the Apple mouse for overall comfort and performance and reliabilty. It's smaller and feels better made then the logitech. Especially nice when you are doing a powerpoint pres because you can use the mouse as a remote clicker. The logitech is too bulky for that.
I have had some erratic tracking where it will randomly acclerate when traveling accross large areas.
When I am at my desk I do like the logitechs scroll wheel and right mouse button.
I am still leaning toward keeping the Apple mouse and taking the logitech back. Can't justify both right now

Re: Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
I don't like how the apple doesn't come with a recharging option, thats something big for me.
The guy at the Apple store said it should last for 3-4 months of "regular use" with the included batteries. I don't remember if he said regular use is 1hr or 8 hr per day.

Re: Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
I have had both mice since Saturday and have been using them both for 4 hours per day. On the apple mouse there is a battery indicator in the Bluetooth control panel and it has not moved off a full bar.
When I spoke of reilablity I am reffering to the fact that the Logitch sometimes just stops responding to clicks or scrolls or movement. Other times it will "over respond" such as when clicking the hard drive having it double click instead.
It's not horrible but the apple mouse has never done it.
Both of them have the sleep problem where they wont respond, but that is an Apple sofware problem I'm sure.

Re: Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
It's really too bad Apple hasn't released a standard 3-button/scroll wheel mouse. I've always liked their mice, but geez, who wants to go back to one button? They'll have to pry my scroll wheel out of my cold, dead hands
I'd love to see what Apple could come up with if THEY made one. Right now my favorite is one of the cheapest mice available-a Logitech "optical mouse" that runs for about $15-20 (and actually uses the same "mechanism" as Apple's pro mouse). But I'm sure Apple could make something that feels even better.
Geez...just took a look at that Logitech MX 900 bluetooth mouse. What a monstrosity! I'm not sure if I'd rather have that, or a one button mouse. 3+scroll wheel is just ideal IMO.

I don't have that problem with mine.
When I put my PowerBook to sleep I either wake it up with the Apple wireless mouse (clicking it) or I open the PowerBook display and my mouse is working within 1-2 seconds.
If I turn the mouse off, it's usually 2-3 seconds after turning it back on that it becomes operational. (and after a click).

get an MX700/900. it's none of all that. the shape is very comfortable in your hand, as if molded from your palm, and buttons are on the perfect spots. and feedback is very nice. it feels just right. not too clickety, but not too stiff.

Re: Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
the mx 500 (which has the same shape as the 700 and 900) seemed to me to have that shape. it is molded into a very high arch, forcing your hand into a cup. i do really like the button placement though
Warmest regards.

I already have a Pro Mouse, though. I guess I forgot to mention that I don't want a mouse with a scrollwheel.

Re: Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
Well Apple inadvertently (on purpose?) made up my mind for me on which mouse to keep between the logitech and the apple bluetooth mice.
After applying the Apple bluetooth 1.1 update, my powerbook will no longer see the logitech mouse. Apple says that the logitech must be following the old single channel protocol and that I needed to go back to logitech for a fix.
Hmmm, I wonder about the truth of that but the logitech definitely does not work now.
Oh well for what I want the Apple mouse is fine. (and looks good)

Re: Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
So the MX900 worked fairly well before the update? Were all the buttons functional? Logitech's website doesn't mention Mac support for it, so I'm a bit wary of getting it for my Powerbook
Tiger Server, not so bad now. Automator, however, still sucks.

Re: Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
Not all of the buttons worked on the logitech. The left, right and scroll wheel worked fine which from that standpoint was good enough for me.
I did have problems with it losing connection sometimes but given recent events i think now that may have been bluetooth related. I would imagine that if you used the logitech bluetooth USB adapter you would not have that problem but I wanted to use the built in one in my G4
The mouse is tall and very solid feeling. My brother liked it so much he bought one for his PC.
I was leaning torward the Apple mainly due to is smaller size but the logitech is a nice mouse.
Hope that helps

Re: Apple Bluetooth Mouse?
Bah! I went out to get an MX900 today and nobody in the city(two cities actually) had it. It was very annoying. Then I goto Logitech's site and it says that it's not available in retail stores yet, what is up with that? This is very irritating.
