Re: The Form Topic
When is the last time anyone used "jumbo" to describe anything that wasn't already a compound or marketed as such?
I still believe in liberalism today as much as I ever did, but, oh, there was a happy time when I believed in liberals.

Re: The Form Topic
You should not address any of the points raised in the article
This is where a snippet from a much much much earlier post is quoted without indicated who said it. It can be days since it was originally made and the context is now completely obscured or already dealt with, the less sense it makes, the better.

Re: The Form Topic
Do most people actually say that or are you making that up to argue?

Jumbo is a fairly common dictionary word so it isnt to far fetched to think someone used it in that context.

I never hear people use the word "jumbo" unless in a previously established compound or to refer to something marketed as "jumbo."
It doesn't matter if it's conceivable, it matters if most people use it that way. After all, it's based on majority consensus, right?

there are 3.5 million google results for jumbo

Well, you're so sure you're right, why wouldn't you just do it? I'm sure there must be jillions of references to C-47s.

Re: The Form Topic
I'll save you the effort, Sty. There were 64,800 hits. I didn't see a single one that referred to anything but a 747.
You're plummeting to earth at terminal velocity. I suggest you just bail out and be done with it.

Re: The Form Topic
I don't think the jumbo jet as being a C-17 is a serious claim.

just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
and go to your god like a soldier...

Yeah, Sty has lately exhibited signs of enjoying keeping pointless arguments going and going. I'm not sure why exactly. Normally he's a bit more mature.

Of course someone must post a reply that is just a laughing max to something said, which of course in no way helps the discourse.

It's a paradox of how sharply dull I am.

I don't think the jumbo jet as being a C-17 is a serious claim.
Its a term used to describe the airplanes that the soldiers jumped out of, and since they sure didn't jump out of a 747, it is refering to a c-17 or similar military aircraft. And since it has now been confirmed (mostly) that this letter is real, written by a battallion commander, you now have an instance of someone using jumbo jet to describe a military aircraft.
That should end the argument

Re: The Form Topic
I've decided (in typical MiniThought fashion) that you are both wrong. Don't ask me why because I don't have a reason.
