Dance of Death

My brother recently got the new Iron Maiden CD, Dance of Death, and so I swiped it out of his portable CD player (if he'd just get an iPod I wouldn't be able to do that), ripped it into iTunes, then returned it to his CD player.  So I've been listening to it for awhile, and it has become evident that Iron Maiden still has it.  You'd think after all these years the prolific metal masters would have lost their touch for cranking out tunes which rock hard and yet are strangely melodic without resorting to hair-metal power ballad tactics, but Dance of Death is easily every bit as good as Number of the Beast, Seventh Son of A Seventh Son, or other Maiden classics.

They just rock so effortlessly and consistently.  Sure, the cover artwork for Dance of Death sucks in comparison to most of their other albums, but the music contained within is as strong as usual, and makes you forget about the lousy cover.

Iron Maiden or metal fans who may be on the fence about this one, go buy the CD, or download it on iTunes.

Iron Maiden is timeless...and as such, qualify as stuff, and not time.

I hate to hijack your thread but it seems (slightly) ovbvious that you are a Metroid fan?

[endless rambling]I could really go for a head to head battle scenario.  I could be Samus, someone else could be Ridley.  I'd kick their buttocks.  Do you think Mother Brain would be a playable character?[/ramble]

Aww, crap. I thought this was gonna be an invitation to face off against you with knives in our hands and do that thing where we move around in a circle until somebody makes the first move.

Oh,well, next time I guess.

This is Iron Maiden, not a Michael Jackson video.

Re: Dance of Death

Yup - I think the band is at it's strongest possible lineup. Adrian and Bruce are back, and Janick didn't leave!

It's awesome hearing the 3 guitarists live. They can pull off harmonies they couldn't with 2.

I also like that Dance of Death appears to be more of a collaborative effort. Adrian Smith writes/co-writes quite a few tunes this time around, and even Nicko has some writing credit!

I agree though - absolutely fantastic album. No question about it.

Re: Dance of Death

those previews are tempting me...
It sounded great.

The only drawback for me is that I really enjoyed IM when I could dedicate time to actively listen to them. I don't have much of that kind of time any more. I wish I did, I could just lay down and listen to these guys for hours on end...

They seemed to be focusing more on collaborative writing with Brave New World, and it definitely showed there, and has come into full on Dance of Death.  Steve Harris still seems to be doing most of the writing, though, but that's ok.  Nothing wrong with sticking to a formula which works, but it's great seeing Adrian and Bruce get in there even more (especially after the great work they did on Bruce's solo albums).

What you said about the live stuff is also so very true.  Anyone with half a (Nicko Mc)Brain should pick up the fairly new Rock in Rio album to experience Iron Maiden live in their own home.
