Think Secret Too Stupid To Die

The twit at ThinkSecret managed to recover from his ritual emasculation long enough to get his site working again this evening.  Being the neighborly sort, I went over to his Contact section and sent him the following feedback:

I am truly surprised you put your site back up after today.  I would have thought you were in an embarrassment-induced coma.  Fortunately, after today's keynote you have zero credibility, and I expect your site hits will dwindle down to the per day equivalent of George Bush's IQ, if not less (if that is possible).

I guess you really were just a rumor-mongering hate-filled jackass all along, huh?

I wish you a long and throughly miserable existence.

I encourage everyone to do likewise.  But use your own letters.

Re: Think Secret Too Stupid To Die

I now find MacRumors.com to be a better source for info because they openly state their reasons for their predictions. (And aren't consumed by their egos.)

Personally, I think he invited it by saying that there was a "0% chance" for Powerbook upgrades at MWSF.  That info was posted right up through Monday.

Re: Think Secret Too Stupid To Die

I think its less the fact that he was wrong and more the wave of arrogance, snootyness and general egocentricness coming out of most of his articles lately.

Dunno, normally after reading TS I just want to smack someone.

confused

Edit: Well Cynic pretty much beat me to the point butoh well. While Im editing I wanted to point out this line from their preMW article:

Over the past few days, we've read a lot of predictions. Some of them very ingenious; others just downright stupid (although you get the impression the person writing them truly believes what he or she writes). As you read this story remember this: Except for percentages between zero and 100 percent, Think Secret doesn't make predictions. What we report is based on actual source material, and our sources are checked and re-checked.

Thats pretty much daring people to kick you when you go down.

Re: Think Secret Too Stupid To Die

You guys deserve to be flamed just as much as the Think Secret guy(s). What did you expect, 100% accuracy? That's just stupid. Honestly, reread their predictions. Most of them were right. Yeah, they missed the Powerbook models, but the original 15 incher hasn't been touched. No revision. Maybe you should think a bit before you post a flame.

Re: Think Secret Too Stupid To Die

The point is how that site is so cocky.  I mean, they had the audacity to put 100% or 0% on some of their predictions.  At that point, they're not trying to be a rumor site anymore, they're trying to pass off their "rumors" as fact.  For that, they deserve to be flamed.  If they didn't talk all the time about how their rumors were from super secret industry sources, and label them as 100% true or 0% possible, I wouldn't have any problem with them.

Well then either ignore those numbers or don't visit the site.  Them putting percents on how much they believe something to be true is no call for you being a jackass.

The point is that these "Rumour" sites are nothing more than some guy's speculation, which he tries to pass off as leaked reports and spy photos. roll

Re: Think Secret Too Stupid To Die

Wow, the level of stupidity in this room is nauseating.

The jerkwad that runs ThinkSecret is not your average rumor site.  He is a POS that takes delight in giving away Apple's secrets and attempting to spoil their MacWorld announcements.  He tries very hard to give people a poor attitude about a given MacWorld before it even happens.  The rumor-mongering is very damaging to Apple. it affects stock prices and creates unreasonabe expectations.  And this guy loves trying to spoil it for everyone.  Other rumor sites posts rumors, and CALL them rumors, often-times those rumors are pie-in-the-sky and no one takes them seriously.  But the thinkseceret crackmonkey has for some reason I cannot fathom had a following and actually has had a lot of credibility.  As has been mentioned, he claims that his reports are fact, not rumor. Thankfully yesterday showed the truth about the little bastard.

Basically, it comes down to the fact that he tries to ruin MacWorlds because he is still upset over being denied a presspass.

Oh. And I am not angry, I am exultant that this crapweasel got his ass handed to him.

For those that do not agree with me, see the sig.

It's too bad Apple can't have something like a "legal department" that could send "cease and desist letters" to people that are ruining their secrets.  That would be such a boon to corporations trying to make great announcements.

If only there were some law or something.

Re: Think Secret Too Stupid To Die

Northwind, give it a rest. Fact is, ThinkSecret has been pretty darned accurate in the past. They nailed MYSF 2002 and MYNY 2002 dead on, right down the line. They missed the SuperDrives in the PB revision in November, and were somewhat off for this MacWorld. They were wrong about iMovie and iPhoto costing, but nailed the bundle and the price. The PowerBooks were not updated, although two new models were introduced. Nick got the Apple browser, the 802.11g, the no new iMacs/eMacs, and the things he said wouldn't show up didn't. Overall I'd say he was pretty darn close to the mark.

And ThinkSecret is a RUMOR site. They're SUPPOSED to try to release the information early, that's the point of their existence. They've been oding that long before the press pass fiasco. Do you send hateful messages to the guys who run MacRumors as well?

Again, give it a rest.

Re: Think Secret Too Stupid To Die

The larger monitor and the lighted keyboard are fluff, I don't really consider them upgrades.  The 12" powerbook is not an upgrade for the powerbook it is an update for the iBook.  The other added features are things you will be able to buy a card for and upgrade on a pc but with the mac we have to buy a new laptop.  Personally I wouldn't buy a new powerbook 1ghz just to upgrade the bluetooth and 802.11g.  Especially if I had a 867 or higher notebook.  Apple doesn't permit upgrades to the hardware without a compelete repurchase.

All of the stuff (iMovie) that was released was nice too bad we still can't use an external DVD burner with iDVD but the area that mac needs to focus on the most got nothing.  No improvments in peroformance on the deskotps and notebooks.  Apple is putting themselves in position where they are going to have to jump from the 1.25ghz to a around 2ghz because ramping up will simply piss off customers who purchase the item and a month later a faster chip comes out.  Rather than extracting all of the sales they can they need to just throw a 1.8 out there and then ramp from there.

I will buy a new apple but I need a beter upgrade...new hardware

Re: Think Secret Too Stupid To Die

Mr. Landry (Northwind),

While I agree with the others who are intrigued by your hostility, I do take issue with your assaults on Think Secret's credibility, and I think another consideration is in order.

Indeed, if you had taken the time to carefully read our pre-expo reporting, as ehuntington and Chris FOM have, you'd see that most of our forecasts were on the mark.

As with any other news organization, we occasionally get something wrong. Unfortunately, we missed the PowerBook announcement for the most recent Macworld, and were incorrect about SuperDrives in PowerBooks before that. But if you examine our archives for the past year or two, I think you'll find that our reporting has, on the whole, been accurate, informative, and credible.

Just in the past six months, we've broken the stories on .Mac, iPods at Target, Apple's rackmount servers, eMacs for consumers, and much more, so it's puzzling for you to allege we have "zero credibility."

I apologize for the untimeliness of this response -- despite being a former moderator of these forums, I don't get the chance to peruse them as often as I'd like.

Thanks,
-Nick dePlume

P.S. Re: "still upset over being denied a presspass" -- while we were of course shocked to see other major Mac publications denied media access at past shows, Think Secret has never had a problem securing press credentials. It's a complete non-issue as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Think Secret Too Stupid To Die

Think Secret is usually pretty dead-on accurate.

Sure, there are things that are wrong, but most of the stuff is true and I value TS as one of the best Apple rumor sites around.
