A little help and criticizing needed...
I started a web page and it is just blah.... I made the logo which I like and I know it still needs some work... But i hate the menu.... and to achieve the 2 tone look below the menu I had to use a table with 3 cells and I know if will not function the way I want... what you change or do to fix it... Thanks a million....

Re: A little help and criticizing needed...
I'm using 1024x768 and the menu is friggin' huge. It takes up about 40% of the width of the browser window. The top part ("My 1965 Chevy Malibu: From Pieces to Complete" and the logo) take up about 35% of the height of the browser window. What is left is very, very, little room for the content and I have to side scroll. Please make these items smaller unless your target audience has very high resolution displays.
I suggest a different color scheme since white text on a black background is hard to read. I personally would suggest a medium blue (such as #666699) for the menu and light grey (#cccccc) for the main page content. You could also use light blue (#ccccff) and white (#ffffff), respectively.
Also, if you make the menu look more like a menu you won't have to label it menu.

Agreed. Your images need some work, too. The large image has some random white pixels. I also think the black should continue all the way up to the top of the window... right now there's a 30px gray border above the box.
Your menu needs work, too. Don't use image maps... especially ones that big! You also have two type faces... try to standardize! Ummm... yeah.

Isn't the Chevy symbol copyrighted?

I'm sure it is, but I don't think they would object to it being on site praising Chevys and linked to their site. If it was linked to Ford.com and on a "Chevys suck" site, any GM lawyers that came across it would be sending out cease & desist orders ASAP.

You may want to see if they have any usage guidelines for their logo though, just in case.
Remember, Apple has very specific rules regarding use of their logos such as required white space and stuff, so who knows about other companies.

I kinda doubt that GM would be stupid enough to go to court over something like that without trying to ask you to "cease & desist" or whatever first. It would just give the company a bunch of negative publicity and unless you're real rich, their lawyers would cost them more than what they could get from you.
If you're worried about it, you can just send 'em an e-mail and ask. If you don't get a reply in a week or so, I'd figure they didn't care.
Of course, I'm not a lawyer, so take anything from me and the rest of the denizens of these forums with a whole bunch of salt.

Re: A little help and criticizing needed...
I have two issues with the site.
1. The header2.jpg, too damned long...still I'm sorry, but it's too long for general users, many don't go past 800x600 res, so remember that when creating a website.
2. The text, put it in a constrained area...don't let it go so far out, again, same reason as 1, people don't mind scrolling down, but scrolling sideways is a hassle most people won't accept.
Except for that not too bad, for a first time, what program are you using? If you want to get into PHP, you may want to try mamboserver.com it's a great little thing to get your site looking professional...
I am setting one up now, just as a test run...so far so good, but just a warning, no real manual for it, but a lot of help on the forums there.
my site is...http://cyberpawz.dyndns.org/Mambo/index.php
This right now is a private server, and I have yet to do anything really with it to test out it's limitations, but I've been busy trying to get published, and many other things...

Yes, it's a bit too long (plus you could do the same thing with a lot smaller image and some CSS or a nice old-fashioned table), but 99% of the people on the internet have 1024 x 768 resolution. Designing for the people who have 800 x 600 (and what about the poor people who have 640 x 480!?!?) is like designing for people who still have Netscape 3. There's really no need... (but you should cut back a little).
The text problem is very similar to the image problem. In fact, it's caused by it. You NEVER want to see horizontal scrollbars.

if they are using 640x480 then they need a new monitor, (larger or at least better quality) for at least the past 10 yrs 800x600 is still considered standard for websites.

Re: A little help and criticizing needed...
There are several people at work that run 800x600 on 17" Dell LCDs meant to be run at 1280x1024. There is one girl who runs 640x480 due to very poor eyesight.

Lets not get carried away now.....it's more like 51% in the real world, with most of the remainder still slogging along at 800x600.
