Re: Seti Crashing comp
There's an extension called Idle Time or something. The icon is a steers skull. Kinda creepy. It's installed by IM. Try disabling it and see if that helps.
...just a wild guess.

Re: Seti Crashing comp
I have 5 computers running seti...all running 8.6. A few days ago I downloaded the most recent version of Set@home 3.03 for one of them. The computer had been stable previous to this install. Now, this particular computer crashes immediately everytime I use a netscape browser or AOL Ins. Msgr. if the screensaver comes on by itself or if I activate the screensaver manually. I will crash even if I open the prefs in the menu or from the Control Panels.
I have clean installed OS8.6 and spent a couple hours yesterday trying to isolate the problem. I didn't have any older archives of Seti@home 3.03 on the home computers to reinstall with.
None of the other computers does this. I wonder if there was a recent update (possibly to prevent crackers from sending bogus WU) that was not noted in the version number. I can see the advantage of the Seti Staff not advertising a patch or update if it did this.
I am going to reinstall an older version of 3.03 on that computer later this week to see if this helps.

Re: Seti Crashing comp
No change with the old archive of 3.03 installed. This looks to be a deeper issue than origianlly thought.
BTW: the Seti Download link is: http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/download.html
Good Luck on isolating your conflict. If you find out anything new post any new info here if you would. I'll do the same.
Thanks

never had a problem in OS9 with SETI@Home 3.03. Remove IdleTime.

Re: Seti Crashing comp
It is located in the extensions folder, but Extensions Manager can't see it for some reason. You'll have to go find it manually, drag it out of the Extensions folder, and restart.
