Re: Gonna buy a Mac desktop, thinking new or used
From my personal experiences (i.e. not to generalize) LCD moniters are brighter than CRT. However CRTs hold many advantages: 1) They are clearer (try watching a DVD movie on a LCD then a CRT to see the difference) 2) They have purer color, and the number one reason 3) They are cheaper than LCDs. So like Pariah stated, you could get two 19-inch moniters for one 17 inch LCD. And its less eyestrain to work on two moniters than one.

LaCies can be calibrated to be exactly as bright as they ought to be in any given work space.
That an LCD can be "BRIGHT!!!" is often a very bad thing. If ones monitor, be it LCD or CRT is set too brightly your photoshop edits will look murky and dark on correctly calibrated screens.
You want the correct brightness not "A Bright Monitor".
I’m not ready to make nice-I’m not ready to back down-I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round-It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could-‘Cause I’m mad as hell-Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

Re: Gonna buy a Mac desktop, thinking new or used
To day I read on MacBidouille that Apple downclocks it's machines.
A guy bought a dual 867mhz and removed the heat sinks and what was written on the cpus? These were 1Ghz chips!
They say Apple may have trouble getting 867 Mhz chips and put Ghz instead. You should take a chance and get a 867 Mhz dual and overclock it after.

Bye-Bye Warranty (especially AppleCare, because it won't cover this caliber of a stupid human mistake)
Bye-Bye Computer (if you get it wrong, it might keel over and die, etc)
Bye-Bye Money
It would be easier to flush it down the toilet (and if this comes off as an attack to the poster quoted, I apologise).
