33 Mhz

I've heard a couple of complaints about RAM with Panther and so I checked mine out.  In Jaguar I know fact positive that the Profiler labelled my RAM as PC133 (two 322S and one 222S).  In Panther it lists them as all PC100.  I put them all in one at a time and it still says the same thing.  On my new eMac it lists PC133 (333S) for the memory in it.  I have not tried this RAM in the eMac.

I have a QS 867 (133 MHz bus).  My question is this:  Is the bus running at 100 MHz since the Profiler is recognizing the memory as 100 MHz?

BTW.  Clean install on Panther last night.  The speed increase over an archive and install is immediately noticeable and boot time is half what it was.

Re: 33 Mhz

If you have one stick of RAM in there that's 100Mhz, and two/three that are 133, then they all have to step-down to 100Mhz. Same thing with hard drives (ATA-66 and -133) on the same bus.

You can look at the RAM physically - usually the older chip looks older. In one way or another.

However, if you are sure that you have all sticks of 133, then it might just be a print error. (Shows incorrectly on-screen but still functions all right.)

Re: 33 Mhz

Same here.  I hope it's only a print error.  That extra mhz isn't much but it's something at least.

Re: 33 Mhz

I wouldn't think that if the RAM was really running slower that the system would even boot.  Faster yes, slower no.

Re: 33 Mhz

and the fact that you cant use PC100 ram in a PC133 slot, so it has to be a print error.

you can use PC133 RAM in a PC100 slot, but it will just run at PC100 speeds.

Re: 33 Mhz

Huh...I thought I was seeing things...so I had to check.

I have a G4/500/AGP with three sticks; 256PC100(original), 256PC133, and 512PC133.  In 10.1.x and 10.2.x, they showed their proper config (100 or 133).  In 10.3.x, they all indicate PC100.

I know they are all running at 100MHz, but it would be nice to fix this little bug so I could rely on the information in the ASP if I want to identify the sticks.
