mic question
how do i record something with my mic. I just want a simple program, nothing fancy, just to record my voice. does the ibook come with one? i tried to download things from www.apple.com but they're all shareware and either only let me record 10 secs, or put some advertisment at the begining of my recordings. Is there any program out there like microsoft's sound recorder that comes with ever version of windows?

If you want free, iMovie you record sound then export it. If it's short-term, Amadeus II has a free 15-day demo. I paid for it, it's great software.

Re: mic question
I highly recommend the following apps:
Audio In
I like this app for more accurate input. You can record directly to AIFF if you wish, but I recommend a better solution.
Audio Recorder
This little gem allows recording directly to AIFF, WAV, and even MP3 (with little processor usage). But before you use this one, you need to install the next thing:
LAME
You can encode files very quickly via the command line, but that's boring. Use Audio Recorder above and it basically puts a GUI on top of LAME to some extent.
All three of these are free and I have no complaints. I use LAME for the encoding, Audio Recorder for actually recording the input, and I use Audio In so I can hear it all at whatever level I want. No complaints with me
