You Have GraphicConverter........Right?

Latey here and at a couple of other forums I have encountered people asking questions loking for a graphics application to acomplish a variaty of tasks. The posters usually said they had looked all over for an app that would do what they wanted and in every single case my answer to them was that GraphicConverter can do that and you already have that on your hard drive.

I would really like people who work with graphic on the newer Macs where Apple has been bundleing GraphicConverter to READ THE DAMN MANUAL for GC!
I seriously get the feeling that there are houndreds of people out there wishing they had a powerfull, multi-purpose graphics application when in fact they already do.
GC will:
Batch convert, resize and optimise images.

Open any graphics file format you will ever encounter and alot you never even heard of.

creat web galleries of images automatically.

print contact sheets.

make animated Gifs

strip resource forks

provide an easy to use image browser with powerfull sorting abilities.

And lots and lots more.

But you need to read the manual.
Other than Internet Explorer you know how picky Apple is about bundleing 3rd party applications. You got GC for one reason: it is the best in class.
Have fun.

Just to clear things up, GraphicConverter didn't always come installed on new Macs.  I do use it regularly though.  wink  I have been a registered user since the days of *shudder* System 7.  smile

PowerBooks get it - under an Apple bundled license.   I also got OMNI Outliner, OMNI Graffle and Art Director's Toolkit (whatever that does).   I never got any of that with any of my iBooks or eMac, and I've never seen them bundled with iMacs, so it's probably just a professional (rather than consumer) machine extra.

All of those programs come on the G5, as well as a copy of Quickbooks and an upgradable demo of M$ Orfice X.

...because the G5 is a pro desktop.

Re: You Have GraphicConverter........Right?

Actually, I think this is pretty remarkable: this is the first time I have seen any third-party software bundled on a pro desktop....usually all you get is the OS.

Manuals? Sure, if you don't mind reading PDFs...........!

Short? confused

The one I got when I downloaded the most recent version (4.9) is a PDF user Guide that is 188 pages long. I wouldent call that short.

Re: You Have GraphicConverter........Right?

Okay .. i registered it too; it's bodaciously *excellent* .. but .. i haven't read the *entire* manual.  However .. as near as i can tell .. it doesn't do separations.  Does it?

If not .. where can one get a 3rd party app that does seps.  Or do we have to shell out massive quantities to get Photoshop?

hmmmm ..?

'-)

Re: You Have GraphicConverter........Right?

GC does not suport layers or CMYK.
Adobe Elements has a somewhat neutered suport of layers. Elements allows layers but has a very reduced set of blending options compared to Photoshop and Elements does not suport CMYK.
If you want real layers and CMYK you are going to have to shell out for Photoshop or something horrible like Corel Photopaint or Deneba Canvas.

Yes indeed. Photoshop does not handle nearly as many file formats as graphic converter does.

Those can be read (and made) with IconFactory's IconBuilder plug-in for Photoshop, though.
