is an iPod worth the price?

iTunes for windows resuscitated my desire for an iPod.  The 20GB model seems more than decent for $369 (under the edu discount).  Are there any better ways to spend 369 dollars?

MP3 player wise, yes. Best thing you can spend money on. In general? Why aren't you feeding people in 3rd world countries, you miscreant?!

No... it's Max holding UP his thumb.

Re: is an iPod worth the price?

When you are using the iPod you harldy make any notice of it. I blew $300 (w/tax) on mine, and I feel fine. Plus you can make it as useful or as non-useful as you wish, which I think helps.

If you want to wait for another price drop or something, go nuts.
I hope that Apple does the smart thing and just sits on the current sizes for right now. I think that the rush for the latest and highest capacity drives has been a large part of what's kept the prices up.

Re: is an iPod worth the price?

I bought my 10 gb for like 350 last aug (over a year ago) and I  love  love  love it. I also use it as an external HD to back up my stuff. When I go to parties and I have my ipod, we can plug it into someones powerbook and they can give me movie trailers and stuff im too lazy to DL at home. I use mine every day and it really is a great thing nod

Re: is an iPod worth the price?

Not like you need another endorsement, but the iPod is so worth it.  If you love music, it's essential.  Seriously, I used to carry around my cds in a bag before I got my iPod.  This is just so much more convenient.

$370 seemed a little steep for just an MP3 (and AAC) player... I neglected to consider filetransfer/storage which becomes a big plus

... Plus you can make it as useful or as non-useful as you wish, which I think helps.

Yet another concern of mine.  I was worried that i wouldnt find myself using it as often as anticipated.  Ultimately, i guess it is my call when/where i use it and how often i use it.

I've never really considered a competetor's product because none of the other devices would stop my drooling over the iPod.  But does anyone else think apple may add features to their product because of the recent increased competition??  I know they aren't desperate, but changes (besides the new comercial) could be made to the product to help it further stand out from the competition (Samsung's Napster player, Creative Zen NX, iHP-120, etc)

Also, what are your oppinions on the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod?? I believe it's priced at near $50 with the edu discount and extends the warranty and phone support to 2 years.  I've only heard a few horror stories of iPods malfunctioning, so it would seem the standard 1 yr warranty is more than enough.  Does anyone have a differing opinion?

Re: is an iPod worth the price?

:: I posted this elsewhere as well, but it seemed relevant::

I just bought the "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" extended version, which I LOVED. I recommend it to anyone who liked the theatrical release. (No, this is on topic, bear with me.)

I just finished watching the supplimental material, which was exhaustive. The film was recorded digitally, manipulated digitally, edited digitally, and they had unreal ammounts of footage to work with.

Apparently they had a high speed digital pipeline set up between New Zealand and England that would allow Peter Jackson to view the daylies when he needed to be in England, but for some reason the pipline fell short of his apartment by about a mile.

So they downloaded the content onto iPods and walked them the last mile down the street.  The only problem they ran into was when the guy carrying one of the final edits of the film nearly got mugged.

I am so looking forward to getting one.

getting one mug? or one of the ipods from LOTR? tongue

seriously, the iPod is worth every pennie. no other MP3 player out there comes close to it's beauty, craftmanship, useness and all that.

Getting an iPod.  Hell, I'd take one from LOTR - that would have extra coolness value!

They're probably still using them, though.  From the 'making of' features it looks like they'll be editing right up until the last minute before they have to ship the final cut of the movie.

Both my iPods were more then worth the $400 I spent on them, the original 5GB model was awesome, but when the 15GB ones with all touch sensitive buttons came out i had to get it. Yes they are very worth the price.

Yes.  That is, unless you'd rather pay $189 for 256 MB.   hmm

"Various"? "Ever since"? Didn't the iPod come out just two years ago? How is it you've had multiple iPods in so short a time, and what do you do with them if you no longer have them all?? eek

Me and my GF have 3 now, 10g, 20g, and a 30g. I am going to give the 10g one to my brother...

My girlfriend bought a 10gig, and I bought a 20 gig for myself. I later bought a 30gig 3g, and gave the 20gig to my gf.
