Alternative to T Mobile Hot Spot?
I am going to purchase a powerbook. Several times a month, I will be on the road and in need of internet access. T Mobile Hot Spot is convenient (Starbucks/Barnes & Noble) but it seems pricey as I have to log in for 60 minutes minimum at a time, even if I only want to check my email in less than 5 minutes. Or I can pay $30/month unlimited. I dont want to do that either.
At least with Kinko's I can run in, check my email and be out in 5 min, paying only 20 cents a minute.
Are there other alternatives? Other companies where I can sit down with my laptop and access the net?

Where on the road? There might be local Hot Spots available, if you research ahead of time.

Re: Alternative to T Mobile Hot Spot?
Go Verizon.
I have the National 400 minutes plan. 400 peak minutes, 1000 Verizon to Verizon minutes, unlimited night and weekend (21:00 - 9:00), awesome service, coverage, quality, customer service, etc.
I got the Motorola t730 to go with the plan.
In addition to that, with a $10 cable, I can sync with Address Book and get 144kbs internet for free. And I don't mean surfing with a phone browser. I mean that my computer is online using the phone as a modem. The service deducts from my minutes so after 9 and on the weekends it's free. I'm not sure what phones support this, but check out the yahoo group maccellphones or the Howard forums.
Getting online with my phone easily makes it a well spent $40 a month.
