Re: I hate Star Trek
Other than that, the best things about Enterprise are the opening song & graphics and the "prequel" premise.
Whaaaaaat are you talking about? The opening theme for Enterprise was lame! They were trying to be all inspiring and "One small step for man"-ish and all they managed was some hackneyed bullsmurf that sounded like it was written and performed by Bon Jovi on quaaludes.
Snooooore.

Re: I hate Star Trek
As much as I hate to admit it, Star Trek is just not the future of Sci-Fi entertainment.
We live in a post-Matrix world now. It's all whiz-bang special effects and people fighting in slo-mo.
Star Trek was drama in a sci-fi setting.
I find it interesting that the "best" Star Trek movies were "Wrath of Khan" and "First Contact." Both movies are pure popcorn chompers with clearly defined good guys and bad guys and tons of eye candy.
Nobody want to see anyone act anymore.I both know and hope you're wrong.
While Wrath of Khan and First Contact had a lot of action, they also had their fair share of charactor development and plot. You don't think they had good acting? The reason they work where other Treks don't is because they have an interesting story and action at the same time.
Movies like Insurrection won't work because it's basically a TV episode built into a movie. Not a very good episode at that, either. I couldn't care less about the acting in the movie if it's boring.
I'd conclude that the best of the best combine all the best features togethor. Nemesis was a popcorn flick that didn't do too well. Why? Because the story was stupid. You're wrong in saying that the ones that work are "pure popcorn chompers with clearly defined good guys and bad guys and tons of eye candy" because they also had stories that mattered.
Don't get me wrong! I love both of those movies as well! In fact, I like First Contact better than Wrath of Khan (personal opinion, please don't flame)! But I also like Insurrection and Star Trek: The Motion picture (ST1), precisely because they aren't popcorn chompers. (Oh, and Nemesis did suck. They should never let Data sing again!)
I admit that my post was too general in content, but the opinion stays the same. The Matrix is redefining what modern sci-fi will look like in exactly the same way that the first Star Wars movie did in the mid-70's. Everything changes from here on out, and I'm afraid that my beloved Star Trek is going to go the way of the dodo.
And Enterprise? Worst. Theme song. Ever.
Grandfatherly advice: You can drink 'em pretty, but you can't drink 'em smart.

Re: I hate Star Trek
Mmmm.. DS9 became the best trek after the war broke out... Part of season 4, Seasons 5, 6 and 7, the show actually became fun to watch and characters got a lot more real. Best DS9 episode(s): In The Pale Moonlight, and Far Beyond the Stars.
I think I enjoyed B5 overall a lot more than any of the trek series. The fact that there was a consistant plot planned out in the beginning alone was amazing. if you don't like the Visual FX in B5, consider this: By the 4th and 5th season the show had only enough money to spend about $120,000-170,000 per episode. They did an amazing job with the money they had.
Best Sci-fi show on TV now? No question. Stargate SG-1...
It will be interesting to see how the new Battlestar Galactica is received. From the previews on Sci-Fi it looks like it could be halfway decent. Stargate SG-1 is ok, but I think they have stretched the series out longer than they should have.
Anyway, the best show on TV period is 24 IMO. That show just rocks.

Bring back Buck Rogers (in the 25 Century, of course).

IF they had used physical models they could have spent less and had it look better.

Re: I hate Star Trek
I think they just stole the Enterprise themesong from a Special Olympics montage.
Everytime I watch it I expect to see a kid with down syndrome crossing a finishline...
In and around the lake,
Mountains come out of the sky
And they stand there!

Lord Funk, that's funny. But I think it's time for this guy...
Good Idea.
StarGate-SG1 has so much on it anyway.... why are we still talking about it?

And now for another "Good Idea, Bad Idea."
Bad Idea *bump*

They were much better when I was a kid - Sapphire and Steel...
Damn! I really miss that programme. It used to have me glued to the TV when I was a kid. I'd love to see it again. I suppose I need to start saving for the DVD box sets...
