How do I configure SETI@Home CLI Client and SetiDockling?

Hi
How do I configure CLI client and SetiDockling?  Here's what I've tried...

1)I downloaded the SetiDockling 2.2 and the SETI powerpc-apple-darwin1.2 (version 3.03)

2) Renamed the SETI folder to SETI@HomeCLI and placed it in /Applications

3) Placed the SetiDockling in /Applications

4) Launched the SetiDockling and went through the Preferences...

Path = /Applications/SETI@HomeCLI
Email = Removed for privacy
Nice Level = 19
Proxy = unchecked
Display Colors = Green, Red
Show in Dock Menu = Path, Email, Progression, Work Units, CPU Time

Display Preferences...
Refresh Every = 30 s
Transparency = middle
Top Display = Progression
Bottom Display = CPU Time

I'm running Mac OS 10.3.1

5) In SetiDockling went to Launch-->And Process Indefinitely

6) Turned from Red (stopped) to Green (active)

7) It properly shows email and workunits in the dockling but CPU TIME, Progression, etc are ??? (question marks).

8) In Activity Monitor it shows the setiathome client running and I can "feel" the performance hit but nothing shows up in the dockling for SETI info

On another similar note, is there anyway to move the SETI files out of my "home" folder and into the SETI@HomeCLI folder?

Thanks!

Re: How do I configure SETI@Home CLI Client and SetiDockling?

Hi & welcome smile

Hmm.  I don't use SetiDockling to control s@h, just to monitor progress, but  let's check a couple of things.

Your last statement puzzles me:

On another similar note, is there anyway to move the SETI files out of my "home" folder and into the SETI@HomeCLI folder?

You're saying that user_info.sah, pid.sah, work_unit.sah, state.sah, etc. are in your user (home) directory instead of the same directory as the s@h program?  If so, that would definately explain why SetiDockling isn't showing any information.  In case you didn't know, progression, etc. are in the state.sah file, which s@h updates every minute or so.

As for why s@h is creating it's files where it is, it sounds like SetiDockling isn't setting the directory before running the program.

First question(s), what user did you install s@h as?  Is it the same as the user you're currently logged in as?  is this an Administrative user?

Second, did you run s@h once manually, to set up your account with the program?

I don't check here every day, but let us know and I'll answer or someone else will chime in smile

Hi

You're saying that user_info.sah, pid.sah, work_unit.sah, state.sah, etc. are in your user (home) directory instead of the same directory as the s@h program

OK...As far as I can tell, SetiDockling creates those files in the SETI@HomeCLI and the actual SETI app creates them in my "home" folder.  I'm pretty sure I ran SetiDockling first and than when it didn't work, I tried running the setiathome program itself.

First question(s), what user did you install s@h as? Is it the same as the user you're currently logged in as? is this an Administrative user?

I don't know if I completely understand the question but yes I did all of it using my only account which is an admin user (not to be confused with root however).

Second, did you run s@h once manually, to set up your account with the program?

Not until after trying SetiDockling.

If you can give me maybe a step-by-step, I could start over and hopefully get it right.

Thanks!

Re: How do I configure SETI@Home CLI Client and SetiDockling?

Hey man,

I ran seti at home CLI first to set it up, then while the Terminal was still running I started up SetiDockling. Set up the preferences and what not.

Then I restarted the machine and started up SetiDockling and told it to start and process indefinitely.

That should run the instance through SetiDockling. I had to play around with it for a bit. Make sure that in the preferences the File path to Setiathome CLI is correct, otherwise it creates the sah files in the home directory.
