It seems everyone who complains about OS X either doesn't understand it yet, or lacks adequate hardware.

This looks like both.

Upgrade the processor to at least 1 GHz, read a good book on OS X, and try again.

Apple has a reputation to maintain. They don't release crap.

I'd have to disagree, I'm running Panther on a cube with the stock G4 450 processor and it runs great.  Granted I'm not really pressing the thing but it is used as an office machine and some moderate desktop publishing and it is fine.  (Yeah, I'm doing the 1.4 GHz upgrade when I have the cash together, but I like my cube....)
