Java and Scrollers
2 part question:
1) Will it still be safe to use Java on a website in the future? I haven't really kept up on the developments of Java on Microsoft to know wether I can count on computers having JVM on them in the future.
2) The best scrolling text feature that I've found so far is this and it's Java. Anyone know of a scroller that is as efficient as this (read: displays nicely) yet may not use java? Most Javascript scrollers are out because they don't play nice in a Citrix environment and we have a large portion of regular users that are in Citrix sessions and Javascript scrollers tend to flash as they refresh (even happens on my 2.4Ghz Xeon box in a Citrix session - the presentation server just can't keep up with that kind of refresh). I'm open to anything and cost isn't too big of an issue for purchasing a script.
Thanks

Re: Java and Scrollers
I'll give you my half opinionated answer.
From what you are saying, your best bet would be to use flash, it will be there for the long term. Java will also still be there, however myself and a few others I know surf with java (not JS) off so we can avoid most of the crap. So from what I have seen from flash, that would be the best option.

Re: Java and Scrollers
I thought about Flash, but since I still haven't figured out completely how to do it yet (I want to pull from an outside file so that I don't have to edit the flash file each time) I haven't been considering it for the short term.
Long term, I'd like to do it since it's efficient, but for now I'm looking to patch an inadequacy in the current setup that'll be in place for another 1-2 months.

It still needs to scroll by it's self.

Yeah, i saw him, but he, like other JS based scrollers, flashes and jumps in a Citrix session.
I friggin' hate Citrix.

What is an iFrame?
I am looking to make a table cell scrollable so that it doesn't extend my template. And how do you do this?

Re: Java and Scrollers
As an end-user, I hate Java.
Q. How do I know when a page I'm loading has an applet in it?
A. My computer just slowed to a crawl, my hard drive is tagging the crap out of itself, and i get to wait and wait and wait.
I don't like Java. I would use anything else but Java.

Re: Java and Scrollers
Then turn it off in safari prefs like I have and you will see no more java.

Re: Java and Scrollers
Flash and director can import objects from an external source. I'd look into that.
