Duo 230 screen stuck super-bright
I'm not sure when it started, because the Duo isn't mine, but I'd like to be able to fix it.
I've got my sister's PowerBook Duo 230 here that seems to function properly, except for the screen being totally white. Yellowish really, and you can't see anything. I can barely make out the Welcome to Macintosh box that displays right after boot, but that's it.
I've tried turning down the brightness and contrast with the buttons on the exterior, but no joy. I'd try to go through the Control Panels by memory, but there is no way to adjust the sliders without the mouse, and I wouldn't be able to see them, so that wont work.
Is there anything else that I might try, or is this some sort of fault that other Mac laptops have suffered from? Thanks for your help.

Couldn't be because it's a eleven-year-old laptop?
The Duo 230 has the lowest-common-denominator screen in the entire Duo series (Passive Matrix 640x400, iirc) I'd buy a new Duo on eBay and drop in the HD and RAM from your old one. It'd be easier, and you'd get a faster CPU in the deal.
Does the machine work in the Dock or with an external monitor?

I couldn't tell you. I've only got the micro-dock that allows SCSI, ADB, and a floppy.

Bummer.
Well, first off check for loose connections. Wiggle 'em around and see what happens.
