Accessing Halo
Is there any way of accessing Halo's music and putting it into my iTunes library?

Re: Accessing Halo
Beats me. I would like to know. I would look around for you but I don't have Halo yet so I can't really make any helpful suggestions.

You bought the game so yeah, you should be able to listen to the music and stuff in it when you want.

Re: Accessing Halo
What's the directory structure inside the Halo (I'm assuming) folder? Like
-Halo
L Data
| L Worlds
L Music
That'd help. Unless Halo is just a package. That might be a B*tch to extract.

Re: Accessing Halo
Well I don't have the game, but there are certainly workarounds.
Can you use something like Audio Hijack?... though I guess Audio Hijack likes to launch the program it's going to record form, so maybe not. It would probably work best to take the audio out from the computer and record that signal. So... if I wanted to record something, I'd take the audio from the computer (which runs to my mixer
) and send it back to the audio in of the computer and use something to record it from there. A program such as SoundHack (which is free) will allow you record what's coming in and I've used that successfully before. So... lets say you have SoundHack and Halo is running or whatever... You like the music so you command-tab to SoundHack and hit record or something...... then take those .aiff files and convert them to MP3s with iTunes.
That might not be the most elegant way though.

Re: Accessing Halo
The music's gotta be in a file or in files somewhere. You'll just need to find and convert them.

I don't know if you're aware, but the music is generated on the fly, composed of many different parts, and is different pretty much different somehow each time you hear it, or at least the CD inserts said so.
Have you ever looked at the victory and defeat music from Myth II? Same sort of idea- different interconnectable music clips that play randomly based on preset probabilities. I believe Halo does something similar, but more complex/elegant.

This is true.
If you were somehow able to open up the sounds file, you'd find hundreds of different sections of the music; splicing them together would take hours of work and the end result would sound like crap compared to the soundtrack.
Seriously, just buy the soundtrack.
The new Special Edition of it only costs $16 and comes with a DVD of footage on Halo 2.

I don't see how that's possible because whenver I start up the game the same music plays

they just script certain sequences of music for the intro (and other places throughout the game), while leaving most of it up to triggers within the engine itself (ie, you got ambushed, you're hiding, etc.)
Immediately, a large toad leaped into her lap and looked at her as if it wanted to be loved. "Grep," it exclaimed. "Don't mind him," explained the Mad Hacker. He's just looking for some string."

Re: Accessing Halo
im gonna post here cuz im assuming the answer to this question will be a quick no and i don't want to start a whole new topic and clutter this place up (but it can't hurt to ask). is there anyway to modify the music that plays on the menu? ev nova was simple, i just found a file of the menu music (aiff or something i think) and replaced it with a song of my choosing. instead of the standard halo theme i would like to have something more upbeat. i can't find any music on the cd or in the halo folder, but maybe im just stupid.

your intelligence notwithstanding (just kidding
) there's no way to mess with the music files as you're wanting to do. i replaced some of the music in mohaa with some sevendust, much more appropriate i thought. as far as anyone has been able to tell, the music is all a bunch of different sound bytes that have been cut up and can be scripted together in different manners depending on the situation the player is in, or scripted cinematics, etc. there isn't just a "halo_theme.mp3" file or something you could replace with an identically named file.
hope that made sense, b/c i've just gone crosseyed
