People have already discussed how it performs in the other Halo threads and even given tips on how to improve performance in certain situations.

Yeah, like if you keep the screen resolution low, you can pump up a lot of other stuff.

i know it has been discussed in other threads. i was hoping to keep this one very specific.

if u have the game, tell us how it runs on your machine.

is that so much to ask?

Re: sound off: how does halo work on your machine?

Honestly, nobody thus far has posted as to the original question.

867MHz 12" PB: 640x480, medium detail, medium polygonal detail, no particle effects, no lens flare, no shaders.  20-30fps.

1GHz 15" PB: 800x600, high detail, high polygonal detail, high particle effects, max lens flare, max shadows, max shaders, per-pixel and vertex shaders.  15-25fps.

867MHz Quicksilver G4, GeForce 4 Ti, 640MB of RAM: 1024x760, high detail, high polygonal detail, high particle effects, max lens flare, vertex shaders.  30-40fps.

Shadows are supported with vertex and per-pixel shaders (basically, on a Radeon 9600 or better only).

How do you check frame rate?  If so, I can get some 1.6 G5 results in.

Re: sound off: how does halo work on your machine?

I guessed based on prior experience with applications that display framerates.

Re: sound off: how does halo work on your machine?

To display framerate during game play...

When the game starts up for the first time there's a configuration dialog box that pops up.  One of the check boxes says "Allow console".  Check that then start up the game.  After the movies play the main menu should pop up.  Hit the tilde key and a console will show up.  type

rasterizer_fps on

hit enter and the framerates should display until you turn them off or quit the game.

The Halo Effect is odd and varies from person to person... for example, some begin to exhibit a fear of tech unusual in computer users, and Freudian sleeprunning- possibly the consequence of some Covenant secret weapon.

G5/recent Radeon upgrades are thought to be the best antidote, or possibly the Purse mod.

Bungie is offering other potential antidotes, some seasonal.

Re: sound off: how does halo work on your machine?

733 digital audio g4, 1.25 gb ram, 10.3.2, geforce 4 ti: 640x480, medium graphics, particles, low sound quality and variety, 20-40 fps (except in intense battles, with the flood). dm and ctf framerates are much better.

and why does it have to lag at the wrong times? why can't it just lag when i'm walking down a hallway alone, not when i've got multiple angry combat forms leaping at me? i just don't get it...  wink

Oddly, it can. Try the first room in 'Assault' after the outdoors- there's a rythmical (~4 sec?) steep drop in framerate, no matter what. Very annoying.

huh. don't remember that one... maybe it's only on legendary or something  shrug unfortunately, i think the harder difficulty settings are gonna require more hardware, since i can barely survive in a couple places where framerates dip into the single digits... not fun when facing two angry hunters, sentinels, flood, and multiple cloaked elites...  brow  blotto

Re: sound off: how does halo work on your machine?

Mac: 1.6 G5, 256 MB Ram, GF 5200 FX
Screen: switching between: 1024*786 and 1280*960
Detail: Most of the things are high, decals on, FSAA off
FPS: I dunno, but high

Constant framerate from beginning to end (yes I have finished it). Some hickups when loading checkpoints, probably because of low RAM

Excellent game, very intense!

Re: sound off: how does halo work on your machine?

Update on the 12" 867 PowerBook: No shaders, low detail, low polygonal detail, no lens flare, no particle effects, 640x480.  On outdoor levels it still stumbles in the 10fps range.

How does Halo's performance compare with UT2k3's on your machines?

Re: sound off: how does halo work on your machine?

Hey how does it run on an iBook G4?

And for that matter, a PowerBook G4 12"?
I'm debating on which one to buy.

(And Halo performance also helps too, lol)
