Halo PC/Mac vs Xbox
I'm just days away from getting my copy for the computer. I've had the Xbox version since day one. Are there any changes in the single player? I'm just debating if I want to go through all that again. Hell I've already done it oodles of times on the Xbox. If there are changes then maybe I'll give it a go again. If not I just may jump right into the MP.
Thanks

Re: Halo PC/Mac vs Xbox
having beaten the x-box version on legendary, i can say that (assuming your computer doesn't lag out hardcore) the end of halo is MUCH harder on pc/mac than x-box. i think bat said somewhere else that the difficulty had been ramped up a bit due to the lack of "x-box auto aim". but there's no new easter eggs that i've heard of, no new levels, weapons, enemies, or anything. so i played it through on normal just to open up all the levels and see how the lag is, and now i can play certain segments of the game whenever i want. you'll probably just skip into multi, which rules

Yeah, besides being harder, SP is pretty much the same as on X-Box, although it will definitely look much better on your rig

The hunters and grunts have always been able to use it. The MC can now use it in multiplayer, that's all.

yeah, i was talking single play. there are new multiplay maps, the fuel rod gun, a flamethrower, and the banshee.
edit: oh yeah, and i almost forgot: we don't have to pay to play halo online, unlike x-box live. that's so weak... pay for the system, pay for the game, then pay to use it? and people put up with that?

Well, there is more technology, development and another department you're paying for when you include X-Box live. And Microsoft loses money on XBox sales, so they only place they're profiting is the game itself. Of course, if you're at a college, you don't really have to pay for XBox live, either. Just play the folks on your network.

i s'pose. but then there's games like evercrack (EverQuest) that you have to buy to own and to use... also, isn't the ps2 networking thing free? (having no consoles of my own, i have to go by what i remember from my buddies)

Also the Shade plasma turret (MP only like the rest). The Fuel Rod Gun (what MC is holding on the back of the Mac/PC box) looks and sounds like the gun Special Forces Grunts carry in SP, which looks/sounds like the Hunter's primary and Banshee's alt-fire modes.
Does that sound to anyone else like an altered, distorted bowling pin strike?

oh yeah, the plasma turrets! i forgot about them because they're next to instant death in single play, i assumed they'd be similar in multi. but i've noticed that they don't topple... is that just because my aim is so bad (i doubt it) or are they rooted in place? b/c it was so fun to toss a plasma nade up onto a turret and watch it go spinning back over my head.

also, the fuel rod gun (in my opinion) is overpowered... it's turned into a "n00b cannon", if you will. not that experienced and "1337" players don't use it as well, but it's so easy to spam with it. at least the rocket launcher has a slow rate of fire, small clip, and limited ammo... unless you're close you can easily avoid rockets that you notice, but it's easy to pepper areas with fuel rod fire.
[/rant]
about the whole altered distorted bowling pin sound, i'm not really sure... i'll get back to you

Re: Halo PC/Mac vs Xbox
Also forgot the variant Rocket Warthog... Shades don't topple? I haven't done MP yet. Probably over the holidays.
From what I remember, the Fuel Rod Gun was supposed to overheat quickly. Might need some balancing; maybe that's in 1.031 or coming later.
I think my favorite thing is to send a Shade spinning with a tank round from long range... but then, there are so many fun things... like separating a Banshee pilot from his craft- (I mean, 'forcing egress') point-blank with a tank round (have to post a screen; you should- and will- see the muzzle flash the Scorpion has)... or the same, but with a plas 'nade... or (...)

Re: Halo PC/Mac vs Xbox
this has happened to me twice online, now, and both times i've been on the screwed end: the other team's gotten the flag, my teammates are nowhere around (usually dead or trying for their flag) and the enemy is running off with my flag in a warthog... i stick said warthog with a plasma nade and rejoice, thinking at the very least i've slowed 'em down enough to finish them off... but no, the grenade goes off, and flips the friggin' warthog over twice and it lands on it's wheels and keeps going! nothing happens to the occupants, apparently... grrr. it's like hitting them with a rocket and watching nothing happen.

Re: Halo PC/Mac vs Xbox
It's really really annoying when that happens. The only thing you can do is curse and stick a few more on next time. (ie. 4) But I love the vehicles filpping, there's nothing quite like hitting the underside of a jeep with a rocket as ot goes over a hill, and it shoots into the air with all the guys falling out. Btw, the ghost is useless except for fast travel. I hate the gun on it, but it has aded me in several speedy escapes with the flag.
I do not think that word means what you think it means.

Re: Halo PC/Mac vs Xbox
yeah, the ghost usually just sneaks in (get it? ghost sneaks in? HAH!) behind the warthog, which most people will attack, and you can run in, get the flag, and scoot out, while your teammates from the warthog make one hell of a distraction... works well if they've got a good driver and passengers with explosives or good aim
of course, the whole thing can be avoided by having a good sniper on the defending side... if only my lag would be more consistent, i'd know how much to "lead" my target by, but unless i get lucky or they're coming straight at me (0 angle of deflection) i don't hit very often with snipe shots at a distance. which is odd, for me... i'm usually a good sniper

I've found the best Ghost move is to circle your target pumping plasma all the time.

Re: Halo PC/Mac vs Xbox
What are ya talking about the ghost is not very good. The ghost is the ultimate Scorpion Killer!!!
As soon as you start firing on the tank, it freezes up. Just stay away from the barrel and that tank is dead in the water.
Not sure how they work against banshee's since they weren't in the Halo version multiplayer.
Hopefully I'll get my copy today!!!! (it's way overdue for 2nd day air, been more than a week)

Never used a ghost against a tank, but can imagine it would be good at that. Against a banshee, and you're dead meat. (I would presume, based on some obvious assumptions)

This is why it's great against the Scorp. The tank is too slow to keep up or catch it.

Yeah, a banshee can knock a ghost over too easily. Plus, banshees are flown by fools when there's a rocket of some kind about
