UT2K3 Tips, Tricks and Tweaks

Hey again,

I thought I'd start a tip tread so we all can benefit from each other's knowledge.

DocB Tip For uncompressing .uz2 files:
In Unreal Tournament 2003.app in the System folder there is an executable called ucc-bin. This is the ucc compression/decompression program for UT. The easiest way to use it is
1. Open a Terminal window
2. Show Package Contents on Unreal Tournament 2003.app
3. Open the System folder in UT2K3.app and find ucc-bin
4. Drag ucc-bin to the Terminal window which gives you the path to the command
5. In the Terminal window right after the "ucc-bin " type "decompress "
6. Drag the .uz2 file you want to decompress to the Terminal window and hit return
7. The decompressed file will be placed in your ~/Library/Application Support/Unreal Tournament 2003/System folder. Since I had the .uz2 file on my Desktop a Users/<my user name>/Desktop/<uncompressed file> was created in the System folder.

OSFG Tip changing .oggs (UT2K3's music):
I've come across a little tip that has helped me run maps that crash UT2K3. If you look in the UT2003.log file in your Library/Application Support/Unreal Tournament 2003/System folder after a crash, sometimes you'll see an error message about not being able to open some music file (they end in ".ogg"). For whatever reason, it seems like sometimes the music file doesn't download with a map. When you try to play that map, the game will crash. One simple fix is to note the name of the music file the game was looking for, then copy one of your existing music files to that name. You probably won't have the music the map designer intended, but the map will now work. If you have something like VLC that plays .ogg files you can preview your existing music files and pick one that seems to fit the map.

This tip lead people to chaning the menu music to something more enjoyable.

Re: UT2K3 Tips, Tricks and Tweaks

First, thanks for consolidating the tips, Levi.

Will it muddy the waters of the topic if I ask how to pull up a server's MOD (mesage of the day)? It was some simple F key in UT. I find servers will list related servers and their IPs in the MOD, but it goes by to quick to read.

Feel free to delete this message if this thread is to be soley a tips and tricks thread (which would be handy).

F2 is the default server info key. Then a window pops up with tabs. One tab is the MOTD and the other is Rules tab.

Re: UT2K3 Tips, Tricks and Tweaks

In the [SDLDrv.SDLClient] section you will see

WindowedViewportX=1280 <<<< specify window size here
WindowedViewportY=800 <<<< specify window size here
FullscreenViewportX=1280
FullscreenViewportY=800
MenuViewportX=640
MenuViewportY=480
Brightness=0.800000
Contrast=0.700000
Gamma=0.800000
UseJoystick=False
JoystickNumber=0
IgnoreHat=False
JoystickHatNumber=0
CaptureMouse=True
StartupFullscreen=True <<<< change to False to start in window
ScreenFlashes=False

On the command line it is Togglefullscreen OR

do option-return on the keyboard and that toggles between fullscreen and windowed.

Oh and when you are in windowed mode you command-tab to switch out of 2K3 to another program.

All credit goes to DocB!!

You can use wildcards in the buddy list, so just add [MA]* and you'll get pretty much everyone in MA. -Thanks Odin!

Re: UT2K3 Tips, Tricks and Tweaks

Unfortunately in Mac Ut2K3 F2 does not show server info. In the User.ini file you have the following:
(the "<<<" are my comments)
F1=ShowScores  <<< Yup... does that.
F2=ShowPersonalStats  <<< Nope... F3 does this. ShowPersonalStats is an unrecognized command from the command line
F3=ShowStats  <<< Shows personal stats.
F4=ToggleBehindView  <<< Nope
F5=ToggleFreeCam  <<< Nope
F6=Stat Net <<< Yup
F7=ToggleFreeCamSwivel  <<< Nope
F8=  <<< recognized
F9=shot  <<< Yup... does a screen shot
F10=Cancel <<< Yup... cancels a connection attempt or dl
F11=MusicMenu <<< Yup... brings up the music menu
F12=  <<< recognized
F13=  <<< recognized
F14=  <<<  Darkens the render (adjusts gamma?)
F15=  <<< Lightens the render (adjusts gamma?)
F16=  <<< not recognized at least as "F16"

There are a number of other keys on the extended keyboard that are recognized and therefore available to be bound

Re: UT2K3 Tips, Tricks and Tweaks

dont forget about using the following in your teamsay messages

%h = current health
%s = current armor
%w = current weapon
%a = current adrenaline
%l = current location

just as an example, today i set up my numpad keys to various com messages......

NumPad0=teamsay ENEMY HAS OUR FLAG HERE -->  %L  <--
NumPad1=teamsay Exiting -->  LEFT  <-- With Enemy Flag   and  %h   %w
NumPad2=teamsay Exiting -->  CENTER  <-- With Enemy Flag  and  %h   %w
NumPad3=teamsay Exiting -->  RIGHT  <-- With Enemy Flag  and  %h   %w
NumPad4=teamsay
NumPad5=teamsay
NumPad6=teamsay
NumPad7=teamsay Attacking Via  -->  LEFT  <--  %l
NumPad8=teamsay Attacking Via  -->  CENTER  <--  %l
NumPad9=teamsay Attacking Via  -->  RIGHT  <--  %l
NumPadPeriod=teamsay I HAVE THE ENEMY FLAG HERE  -->  %l  <-- with  %h  and  %w

i am still trying to complete a set that makes sense with the most useful messages

Someone should let me know if they can get this one to work....(i havent been able to track down the button on my mouse in the user.ini)

Aliases[#]=(Command="getweapon xweapons.ShieldGun | Button bFire | Fire | OnRelease Jump | onrelease switchtobestweapon",Alias="ShieldJump")

im pretty sure by the alias you can tell what sort of fun this is.

[Bump]

For the newbies...

Learn the maps, learn to run backwards, always check your six.

I can always tell a new player. They never turn around and die while getting blasted in the back.

This weekend I saw some good players using the shield gun to great effect. Something I think we need to work on.

The Shield Gun is awesome. I haven't gotten it's fine points yet, though. How many rounds can it deflect before it fails?

Well it recharges. The "ammo" is set at 100, since you asked I just timed it. With the fully charged gun you have a little more than 18 seconds of shield time. Then it takes the same amount of time to full recharge from empty.

BTW a quick kill against a shield gun oppent is a shock combo to the left, right or above and pass them. Never at them, won't do any good.

Re: UT2K3 Tips, Tricks and Tweaks

Hi,

I'm trying to find out what the Unique taunt number or correct name to use so I can bind it to a key.

Currently, I have to push "v, 6, 8" to use it.
This is my movement keys.

D=MoveBackward | Taunt gesture_point
E=MoveForward | Taunt asssmack
F=StrafeRight | Taunt throatcut

I wanted

s=StrafeLeft | Taunt unique

But this does not work.

maybe it's

s=StrafeLeft | Taunt Anim unique? or Taunt Anime UNQ? or Taunt Anime Uniq? or Taunt Unique or Taunt UNQ or Taunt Uniq?

I seen in a file a few months ago, that had all these names in it, but I cant find that file..had all the unique taunts and anime taunts in it. But I forget what file it was.

If anyone kows anything, please, let me know, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have made many pictures for UT2k3, and I'm sure would work in UT2k4.

3 Line House

/I````````````I\
~I[{}]-__-[{}]I~
_I____I_`I____I_

say /I````````````I\ | say ~I[{}]-__-[{}]I~ | say _I____I_`I____I_

Just copy that line into a key you want, then once you push this key, it should pop up the house.

And if you want, you can also bind a speech taunt to it, like "speech TAUNT 10"

say /I````````````I\ | say ~I[{}]-__-[{}]I~ | say _I____I_`I____I | speech TAUNT 10

so when you push your key, it will pop up the house picture, as well as say, "my house" smile

I got bored, what do you expect. smile

I have more complex ones, like, a plane, a nuke, a nuke exploded, a shotgun. If you want them, ask.

And don't forget you can put color codes in there as well to make them look pretty smile

I thought it was a 2k3 server.. sad

Do you know how to get teh Unique Taunt Anim binded to a key? I found all the taunts and that, in the Animations folder, opened them in wordpad but I couldn't find the unique taunt anywhere in there, in any of the files sad..

Thanks for that info though..much appreciated.

Re: UT2K3 Tips, Tricks and Tweaks

No idea on how to bind taunts. I dont use them unless Im within view of the end game screen. And then I only use the 4 basic ones.

Here (UnrealTech) is an excellent reference about Key Binding and Tweaking UT2K4. Extensive list of taunts at the bottom of the article. big_smile

Re: UT2K3 Tips, Tricks and Tweaks

DrB,

I need your help please.

I am making a server, not dedicated but one on my pc.

I was wondering, how would I make it so when someone connects to it, it automatically downloads models? Or can you tell me how to even do soemthing simple so I can work of it, like a new map, or mod.

I would greatly appreciate it if you or anyone else could help me on this.

I tried searching for this, but I don't know what words to use for the search.

Thanks..

http://www.levels4you.com/forum/view.l4y?view=138093

Complicated..but works...but not on all skins.

On my own server, I have it pushing a modified GothGirl. Someone else I know got a whole bunch of skins/models pushed.

And if you do google it, try this in the search field:
"unreal tournament 2004" "push skins"

It is technically called skin/model pushing.

Can you tel lme the basisc of whats meant to go into the source file, or the "uc" file? I followed or tried to copy , the levis tutorial, but the droideka is differnt, and was jsut wondering if you knew exactly how its meant to be setup so I can work of it in the future..

Thanks much dude for anymoe information, I greatly appreciate it smile

And yes, Im starting to do google searches for pushing models for UT2k3.

Oh, btw, Im trying to do it for UT2k3...not 2k4..
