Graphics problem in AoM, possibly got cheesed by Macsoft
So my pops bought me Age of Mythology for christmas, knowing how much I enjoyed Age of Empires II. I'm on a cube that is stock aside from 256 mb of RAM. I read over the sys reqs, and everything is minimum at least, so I open up the box, and install. It only took up 815 or so MB which really impressed me, but when I got into the game, all of the skeletons of every 3d object are simply white, as though the game didnt install their skins. The gameplay itself is fine, aside from the eternal snow covering everything, so its only graphics that are my problem. I search around the internet, and apparently no one else has had this problem. I went to Macsofts support site, and there they list something in the system requirements that was not listed on the box. On the box it says 16 mb video card, and on the website it says, 16mb radeon or Geforce. Is this my problem? If so, be weary of system requirements listed on boxes and research a little more into them. Is there any way to solve this?
thanks

It sounds like a driver issue. Based on your message it sounds like you have a Rage 128 card in your Cube? Those cards have been known to have some major driver issues with OS X. I don't know of any way to resolve the issue other than to notify MacSoft. If enough people complain then they might raise the priority on getting that fixed. I would recommend getting a hold of a better card though.

Maybe your computer wants you play decent games. Non-MS games*.

Immediately, a large toad leaped into her lap and looked at her as if it wanted to be loved. "Grep," it exclaimed. "Don't mind him," explained the Mad Hacker. He's just looking for some string."

I believe the Rage 128 doesn't support certain texture levels, which would explain the textures not showing up (and why it won't support Quartz Extreme). The solution: replace the graphics card :\ . I know, that's a really crap solution, but as far as I know it's the only one. And emu, if you're on an iMac with that problem you're screwed... sorry. But for you, G4cubeguy, you can probably find a used GeForce 2MX or ATI Radeon for pretty cheap, if it matters that much to you.

yeah, i don't know if the standard geforce 2mx fits in a cube but if it does, i have an extra one i won't ever get any use out of. i'll "sell" it to you (like shipping + 10 bucks or something) if you're interested. pm me
